Ok, as another year comes to a close, I need to ask.

What were your discoveries this year?

This can either be in the form of newer bands, or even older bands you have discovered / checked out for the first time.

Here are some of mine, though I am sure I will miss some the first time around:

Agalloch
Saturnus
Reverend Bizarre
Turisas
The Hidden Hand
Nachtmystium
High On Fire
Black Sabbath (Tony Martin-era)

Off the top of my head:

Novembers Doom
Pyramaze
Amon Amarth
Firewind (just the last album with Apollo)
Raintime
Morgana Lefay (I had only heard the two albums they released as Lefay and started getting into the older discs)
Communic
Pathosray
Talisman

Edited to add Talisman!

Pagan's Mind is probably my biggest "discovery" or "epiphany" I guess.
Really developed an ear for Firewind this year which previously I couldn't get into.
Have started to find enjoyment in harsh vocals with the help of bands like Arch Enemy, Scar Symmetry, Raintime, and Into Eternity.

*Good* discoveries:

Amon Amarth (more of a rediscovery)
Epica (more of a "wow, they're better than I remembered" discovery)
Seventh Wonder
Suspyre

I don't have many others, because I am now in a less experimental phase, and sticking with what I know.

Ken

Gojira
Horrorscope
Gnostic
The Autumn Offering
Deathspell Omega (best & truest Black Metal I've ever heard...and quite progressive)
Horse The Band
Swallow The Sun
Insomnium
Susperia (knew of them before, but got into them a lot this year)

I'm sure there's a couple more, but can't think of them right now.

Above all, Myrkgrav

Eluveitie
Skyforger
Tyr
Solitude Aeturnus
Asmegin
Arkona
Malsain
Helheim
Otyg
Fortid
Lamented Souls
<Code>
Exsilium

And many more.
