Whats the future of metal production in the next 10 years (2010-2020)?

more shitty bands making more shitty records that all sound like the same homogenized cut copied and pasted bilge.

Can you imagine a Nu-Metal revival?? I don't know which would be funnier... that or a total My Chemical Romance Revival... i wonder if the Sneapsters of 2020 will put up with it...??

Don't 'spose anyone wants to buy a copy of the black parade?
I was 15 years old once too >:{

In the 80s the bands often said "no synths used" on their sleeves...
I suppose the next decade will bring up statements like "no autotuned vocals" and/or "only natural drums and guitars" :D

I hate that excessive editing already... :bah:

natural productions will be where it is now.. maybe improving somehow and the other end of the spectrum, the polished shit will be more polished. trends will come and go.. it's kind of obvious

I could see a new monitoring system becoming the norm at the consumer level. With the whole HDTV thing taking off, more and more people are getting 5.1 surround sound systems in their homes. I could definitely see a marketing scheme on albums like "(insert band name)'s new cd, NOW IN 5.1 SURROUND SOUND!" I had the chance to mess around and mix a session that was recorded in 5.1 format at school and I'm not gonna lie, it was pretty awesome. Drums were recorded in quads, so it truly sounded like you were sitting behind the drumkit as you were listening to it. It just opens the whole sound spectrum a lot more and it would allow people on the engineering side to get a whole lot more creative.

I guess there will be some sort of 90s revival in the late 2010s, when the kids of the new generation are sick and tired of the coldhearted business-lifestyle nowadays.

But it could be that everything keeps going the way of the late 2000, since every progress has turned to be slower and slower, except the digital era.

I don't see any kind of movement in that Seattle reloaded thing. It also lacks credibility in some way. There has to Happen more than watching a bunch of survivors reliving their youth for money.

What I have in mind, when I think about a 90s revivals, are some kids who are having a romantic idea of the 90s and making their own thing, based own their interpretation of this decade.

And if it's not the 90s, there will be some other subculture for an retro "offline-lifestyle". Digital life is' a Emo-thing and the next generation will hate Emos.

Outboard gear will die. Solid-state technology will see the return of all in one porta-studio type devices running proprietary daws. Hardware will be solid state, noise and heat free, and extremely cheap. VI use will be rampant including guitars and vocals. All mixing and mastering will be outsourced to India.

I think production in 2020 all depends on what samples Steve Slate is putting out and which ever POD type device everyone is using.

I've come to the conclusion that it won't matter, cause the vast majority of local bands don't care what their record sounds like.

in 10 - 20 years...hmm metal will be retro..."Motorhead, Slayer, Metallica, Dimmu, Maiden etc..." will be only heard on easy listening radios station.....Metal production will take place on the single DAW as most outboard hardware vendors have gone out of business or "streamlined" due to the use of software, the expense of parts and either the Korea war or Global economic meltdown (which we are currently only just treading water in)....metal will still be made and people will still attempt to perfect the music, thats in the nature of metal - it seems metal heads are very detailed in what they want

In 2020 people will use Toontrack's EZDAW with EZmix channels that have EZguitar, EZvox, EZdrummer etc. and all you have to do is click click click "write" all the music in midi and they just mix themselves for you!

No more having to learn an instrument!
All live shows will be played with laptops of course!
