Whats the go with Engl prices in Australia?

WTF do we get arsed raped for Engl products here? I can not for the life of me, fathom the ridiculous mark up on these heads and cabinets!
I have an Engl Savage on it's way from Germany for 1393 Euro ($1668 AUS including shipping) and here in Oz it's a "special order!" So seeing as we get bent over backwards here for a Powerball for instance ($3395 AUS), I take it that the Savage is somewhere near the $4000 mark! How can someone like little old me get the same product for $2300 AUS less than a big company like Allans music?
I rang the one and only distributor here in Australia, asked the question and proceded to get hung up on (rude cunts).
I just wanted to know the answer. I can understand a fair mark up, but c'mon, over 60% mark up from what I am getting it for, that is just ludicrous!
A Blackmore here is between $2995 and $3295 AUS. In Germany (same tolerable voltage) from Thomann, $1200 AUS delivered to my door! ($120 AUS on top of that for customs), even so, thats $1320 AUS! A saving of $1700 AUS!
Why the huge mark up? Even Mesas in Germany are half reasonable price. Allans and co must be laughing every time they sell one of these heads, all be it not so often.

Totally agree. If they keep going like they are, I can't see them lasting over the next 3 years. Even their ebay store has jokes for prices.
In the old days, we had to get equipment from the States in order to save a pretty penny, then replace transformers and plugs. Now, with the Euro doing well against the Aussie dollar, there are a few countries that run on 230v plus, so no need to replace anything bar the jug kettle cord.
Shipping rates are awesome too. 50 euro for a head. I cant send a head anywhere in Australia for that price, let alone overseas.
It's time for us Aussies to grab a few bargains me thinks, while the goings good Now I just gotta work a bit harder and save some more cash.

I'm in Brisbane, went for a look around to some local shops, things like audio interface, duncan seymour pick ups, control surfaces etc, no way I'll be buying in Australia, much cheaper to ship from online US stores, such as Sweetwater. As long as it's under AUD$1000 postal, you end up miles in front.

Same with TVs. I bought an LG 55" LED, Harvey Norman wanted $3300 for it, went to an online store and got it for $2550 with a blue ray player.

Allans/Billy Hyde are retarded. Awful customer service, employees who know absolutely nothing about anything, and on top of that, the ridiculous prices. I go there all the time and try things out, then just buy it online for half the price.

I should state that I am not all for buying overseas as such, you know, something here for $350 that you can get for $300 in the states. When there is a margin from anywhere up to $300 odd dollars, I think that buying here, warranties etc come into play, but saving $2400, now thats a lot of kahuna!
I can cop a little over some other prices from overseas, but when it runs into the thousands, then it almost becomes a blatant rip off, something I dont want to be a part of.
I told Allans what I was doing and asked if they could get somewhere near what I am getting the Savage for, and they said they couldnt get within koowee of it. Something about shipping costs and the middle man wanting their share. Is it $2400 worth of share? If it is, then they should be ashamed of themselves. And as for those rude pricks that distribute Engl here, all they could do was hang up on me when I asked the same question. I feel sorry for anyone who purchased an Engl brand new here in Oz. For the same coin, they could of got a top notch guitar as well.

Mesa does the same thing with europe. Or at least the distributors do, dunno how much Mesa itself has to do with it

That's why A&BH is going out of business. Give them until the end of next year at the latest.

Slightly off tangent, but our Perth A&BH used to be a fucking awesome store (before the Allen's merger) with a heap of really awesome workers. Everyone there knew their shit backwards, and made it really worth your damn money to pay for their Koala taxed products. After the merger, all the good employees jumped ship to the main competitor (introduction of commission based pay packages was the main reason most of them left). Now the place is a destitute shit-hole that only makes money off newbies and guitar repairs (which they do an awful job of, since their good techs left). I've spent well over $15,000 at that store before the merger, but haven't given them any more than $100 since.

We had the same deal here in Ballarat. Great blokes etc, and then bang, all gone.
I spent a bit there a few years back and ordered a set of HS-80s for my studio. Got a phone call saying they where in, went down to pick them up and there was only one there! I asked why there was only one and the reply was "well, you didnt specify 2"! I couldnt believe it.
Another time I waited 6 weeks for an mbox mini for a mate to come in. Went down and asked how far away it was, and was told they were waiting for a shipment to come through. I had enough and rang the Melbourne store to see if they had one. They had 3. Been there a long time too. So went back to Ballarat and told them my detective work, and if they could get one from Melbourne. They said it could take a week or more. So with that I wanted my cash back. A change of heart from the Manager, and he drove down to Melbourne that day and bought one back for me! I hope these blokes havent got big mortgages, cause I reckon they will need another job in a few years.

You'll be pleased to know they under administration. Suck shit to them. Every year I go home to the states and buy stuff and just fly it home with me and walk it through customs. The holiday + gear is cheaper than the prices here.

actually i think its something that comes from the country. its just the customs.
here in Israel we have ridicilus customs on everything. in the price you can buy a mercedess in the US here you can buy maybe a renault. it's the same on music stuff.
i bought the ATH m50 from sweetwater for 150$, here they sell it for 320$, why? because of ridiculus customs.

i bought a powerball for 3300 usd here at a local store. the savage costs more like 5000$.
mesa here costs around 3300 for a mark V.

we all have to move to the US

Not sure, but I bought my Blackmore for $1k on Melband. Everyone is going broke and selling off gear like mad. You'd have to be mad yourself to buy gear new from the shops in this climate. The bargains are flying left right and center.

I've never used a Savage so I can't comment on that, but on its own it's a very cool amp. Probably not a substitute for the 5150 in a majority of metal situations, but for those bands where it works, it works quite well. Handles music in B and lower better than the 5150, most of the time. There is a certain looseness and rawness to the tone which can be quite useful for the right band.

well ermz, the problem is that not everywhere you can buy second hand. i mean, i really doubt if there are more then 2-3 savages here in israel.. untill recently the only things we got imported were marshalls peavey fenders and stuff. even messa is not too comoon yet over here.

mesa boogie or the distributor do the same in europe.
We're totally getting fucked here.
If you wish to test in music shops, forget itthere's not many choices in france. Pretty much a worship to mesa and that's it. Often you'll find a mesa, 6505. If you're lucky you'll find a engl, randall (if very lucky), krank diezel, good marshalls. At least in paris and all around.

Again, i also turned to germany for their prices and customer services, thank you thomann !

Same thing happened here in Melbourne, The Billy Hyde store at Nunawading was awesome before the Merger. After the merger, all of the staff that I had known for two decades were gone.
