Whats this I hear about Opeth re-releasing Blackwater Park???

from http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.asp?mode=Article&newsitemID=2866

On June 3rd, Music For Nations Records will be releasing a special version of OPETH's Blackwater Park CD, featuring a second disc with two previously-unreleased acoustic tracks—reportedly an as-yet-undisclosed new song and a version of "Patterns in the Ivy 2" with vocals—and an enhanced portion containing bonus video footage of the band in the studio recording the album. At this time, it is not clear if this special edition will receive a US release.

Here's what I nicked from Blabbermouth:

No U.S. release? Big fucking deal. Like that's ever been an issue for the U.S. fans anyway...

I don't know how anyne could "not like the idea" of having 2 new songs and video footage at the studio FINALLY being released!

Can't please everyone I guess...........

I think it's cool of course, can't wait to hear/see it!
:p

I would have preferred that the footage be released on DVD, as originally planned. But this is definitely better than nothing. And those new songs will be a nice little preview before the new album(s).

im almost slightly pissed off, i mean im not sure what direction opeth are heading and im scared, i mean whats going on, argh im gonna have to buy blackwater park again (although i'll probably buy it, swap the first cd around with the fresh new one and return the original or something, not sure what to do yet.

i think some sort of DVD/cd set would have been a better idea, i mean like tool did, releasing their music videos and a cd of rare stuff, oh well. im not sure at all how i feel about this, i just really hope they dont compramise anything, and even if they do, i dont really care as long as they still sound as great as ever.

Bought BWP a week ago. I'm not pissed, but I won't buy the second edition. This is commercial bullshit if you ask me. Well....where are those filesharing program

Compromise anything? This is just some bonus crap, you don't have to buy it (though depending on your view of the band, you may "have" to, as I do). Sounds more like something initiated by the label than the band anyway.

I don't see the problem anyway. MFN is a good label, and I'd say Opeth actually deserves the money they get from it.

well Hondo, after news that:

A) theyre doing a festival with punk/ska bands

B) theyre releasing one mellow (seemingly to appeal to the newer fans)

and anyway it still doesn't stop me from being slightly scared/uneasy/anxious about whats next, and as i said, as long as it sounds good, im still buying their stuff, i actually want them to be famous, but for the music ive heard and stuff like it, when i say compramise i mean i dont want them to change for the sake of being more appealing rather than anything else. im sure im being far ahead of myself but thats just my feelings about the moment, i mean i should be nervous about what promises to be two of my favourite albums (fingers crossed)

guys we all love opeth and some may be like me, too: i just cant get enough of them. you cant imagine how excited i was when i was buying the bwp album months ago. so anything new from opeth just f*cking drives me crazy. and it would be MUCH better if they'd release a dvd, but at this point we have too put ourselves into opeth's shoes. dont you think that mikael would have wanted the same as we did? dont you think opeth would be happier if they appeared on a dvd rather than an enhanced cd? look, there are many factors we are not aware of: money, label problems, sales, contracts, etc. so dont get angry at opeth for not releasing a dvd.

Remember, lables release albums, not bands

Maybe the only extra tracks they have are the soft ones. I mean, if someone's buying BWP in the first place, I think they could deal with some heavy bonus tracks, heheh.

I don't know, I don't have any worries about it. Those aren't reasons to become concerned over. If they were say, joining up with Elektra and getting some pop producer and making videos then yes, I would feel quite concerned. I'm just going to not care and assume that the next albums will beat me up and steal my shoes with pure musical force just like all the others have when I've gotten them.

This is just scary news to me :o/ Sounds way too
commercial! I'm going to HAVE TO buy it though,
cause I love the band so much, and want all the
bonus stuff there is :o)

Yeah, great getting some xtra material, but not
when you already have the original album! :o/
