I voted for post-Black (post AJFA for me) albums because those are mallcore IMO. And mallcore is the WORST thing ever happened to metal (worst than modern black which I abhors, or glam that don't move me at all*)

*Note: extremely personal view so don't bother to flame

Power metal gone awry. See: Hammerfall, Stratovarius, Rhapsody, etc.
I disagree. I like Hammerfall but not Stratovarius, Rhapsody, Sonata Arctica, Skylark, etc.

@ Swine and in general: My vision of power metal (especially from Europe) nowdays is that all the bands are put together into the grinder and collectively metalheads are siding with either:

  1. hate that flower metal
  2. love that power metal
IMO if you take time enough to hear a lot of Euro power bands you will notice that the "happy" melodies and the overused of keyboards are not generalized.
Hammerfall may be "happier" than Blind Guardian, but they don't abuse of keys like Rhapsody as an example. Time Requiem is based on keyboards but they are not power but neo-classical more like Malmsteen than Rhapsody, or Hammerfall, or Angra, or Dream Evil.

Therefore you cannot put all bands in the grinder. To me there's:
  1. power metal I like
  2. power metal I don't like
When you have that in mind then you can judge Hammerfall, Shadows Of Steel, Helloween, Blind Guardian, Brainstorm, Dream Evil, Azrael, Mesmerize, Cryonic Temple, Freedom Call, Skylark, Angra, Primal Fear, Heavens Gate, Dark Moore, Forgotten Tales, Rhapsody, Metalium, Stratovarius, Wonderland, Avalanch, Beholder, Imperio, Shaman, Iron Savior, Sonata Arctica, Steel Attack, Labyrinth, Paragon, Tierra Santa, Dragonland, Nightwish, etc., etc., etc.

It's like say all epic metal bands are cheese like Manowar. Generalizations are dangerous.

I'd vote for "black / death metal" but it's not listed. :)
Like I said before that's why I got with late Metallica

What's worse:

1) Kiss
2) Post Black album era Metallica (Load, St Anger)
3) Ripper-era Priest
4) Poison
5) Deicide, Obituary, etc ad nauseum
6) Flower Metal (Hammerfall, etc)
1.Kiss has some great songs
2. Not everything Metallica did aftyer the black album was bad
3.Granted "Jug and Demo"Werent that great But Ripper Added alot of "Hetero" to the old Priest songs and did most of them better than Old Robert
4.There are worse things than Poison ... For example: the entire Disco Movement
5. I love Death Metal ... Obituary is a Excellent Classic band!!!!!
6.What The FUCK is "Flower Metal"? .. what do ppl get bored and make this shit up for fun?

I picked up the 1998 live record and was severely disappointed. Ripper butchered just about every song. His voice may, at time, be similar to Halford's, but it simply lacks the warmth & depth of Halford's. I simply don't feel that Ripper is a good singer. Hence, he was in a covers band.
Glenn & KK made a colassal error in judgement in enlisting his services.

People like to diss Blaze Bayley, but for christ's sake, at least the man can sing.
I have a hard time stating the same for Ripper.

Regardless, the Ripper-era Priest albums suck musically, as well. Clearly the band's darkest moments.

And what's wrong with disco? Heck, our friends in Kiss found it so alluring thet actually took a stab at it!

Wow, a tie between Poison and Metallica? I guess I can't speak for too many people, but I really enjoyed Load and Reload. St. Anger was ok, but not as good as Load and Reload. I would've picked Kiss, but they have had quite the influence on stage performances from bands. Oh, and I don't like Poison

Death Metal is one of my favourite genres of Metal so I couldn´t go with that one. I like KISS and just try to ignore the merchandising machine thing. I don´t like Ripper era PRIEST but don´t consider it a blemish on Metal really. There are some good "flower" Metal bands, HAMMERFALL is one of them. I don´t even consider their debut album flower Metal at all. After spending several years totally hating and despising METALLICA for "betraying" Metal I have come to appreciate in a small way the "Load" and "ReLoad" albums for what they are: Hard Rock. There is no excuse for "St. Anger" though. Lastly, POISON, TRIXTER etc I don´t consider Metal, just Hard Rock so for me they don´t count as a blemish.

I think the most embarrassing blemish on Metal these days is the whole "truer, eviler more culter than thou" attitude most found, but not limited to, in the "Black" Metal "scene".

HAH! when all those fools took a stab at disco that must have been dark times!.....

I see we have a difference of opinion Regarding Tim Owens... Before he joined I Hated Priest ... it was partially due to his work on '98 Live that got me Into Priest .. Like I said He added some Much Needed Pussy-Lovin to the Music ... and Tim IS a great singer he breathed new life into a faultering Iced Earth ....... Jugulator and Demolition werent completely Horrible you could take the best songs from both albums and make a Hell of a compilation ... Some of the Best Shows I have seen live was Ripper Priest ... this is another Topic were essentually we are both right ... Just cause I liked Ripper priest doesnt mean you have to BUT it also doesnt mean I'm wrong for liking it
