Whats your favorite debut album?

Devin's debyt wasn't Infinity, it was Ocean Machine.

Actually it isn't. Ocean Machine is the name of another project by Devin Townsend, and their first, and only, album was called Biomech. Devin later changed that whole thing. And replaced the Ocean Machine band name with his own name, and also changed the original album name from Biomech to Ocean Machine. So..Devin's first solo album (under his name) is Infinity.:saint:

But didn't he release Ocean Machine under his own name BEFORE Infinity?
I read somewhere that it was only released as "Biomech" in Japan and then released worldwide under the name Devin Townsend - Ocean Machine.

I think this would rather make his "Ocean Machine" more of a debut album than Infinity.

E: Wikipedia seems to be on my side with this too..

E2: Actually, I'm not quite sure which is the debut, but does it even really matter? :p

@ People who said On the Sunday of Life... is Porcupine Tree's best album, I think that in comparison to some of the newer albums (IN ABSENTIA), On the Sunday of Life... is incomparable. It's my favorite "Delerium Years" album but compared to the newer stuff, it's not as good.

Am I being a troll saying that?

Who said OTSOL was PT's best album? This thread is about favorite debut records. "In Absentia" has always been my favorite, too, but it wasn't exactly their "debut". All their shit is pretty much brilliant in my book, but I would agree that their newer, heavier stuff is their overall best work, though. PT's evolution has been fun to observe from one record to the next, and much like with Opeth, you can pretty much count on them to continue pushing the envelope and we're all lucky enough to be around to witness it!

It's a great time to be alive... (well, from a musical standpoint, anyway!)

Agalloch - Pale Folklore
Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Godsmack - Godsmack (Say what you will about them but this is a great album)
Nile - Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka
Metallica - Kill Em All
Rammstein - Herezeleid

Yeah, as Roadking said this is your fav "debut" album thread.

Anywho, I'm a huge Tree fan, but I don't even like that album. Nine Cats, and It Will Rain for a Million Years are the only two tracks I find any good off it. Actually besides a few songs here, and there I don't find anything too outstanding until Signify, and Stupid Dream is where they became amazing.

On the sunday of life has some really good songs, but imo pales in comparison to stupid dream, lightbulb and in absentia and even deadwing. Actually I like Up the downstair more than on the sunday, I was saying earlier that On the sundy while a good album, I wouldn't put it amongst some of the best debuts hands down. But that's my opinion in terms of where PT's debut ranks amongst their others. Nice lists guys, and nice picks with Russian Circles and Pelican, hadn't thought of those two. A few more I thought of, Iron & wine, Isis, GY!BE, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band, Tori Amos, Mogwai, Scott Walker- Scott 1, Morte Macabre, Comus, Peter Gabriel and the shoegaze band Ride with their debut Nowhere is awesome. I really like Sigur Ros- Von, although it isn't as good as they get, its still a pretty good debut imo. Smashing Pumpkins- Gish and Radiohead's Pablo Honey are both pretty good Alt rock albums, while they reach a lot more potential on both their following albums I still find them to be impressive debuts.
