I live in a hotel a few months out of the year for work and i hate being away so I just bring it with me! This year has worked out pretty damn well with the kemper and I picked up some m audios bx5a's that don't sound half bad. It's really just for writing new material, no serious mixing. Motu ultralitemk3.

I hope you don't have to repack/depack every day ?

This!! I also live in a hotel room a few months out of the year but there usually isn't enough extra room in the work van to bring much extra besides our tools.

Plus, we normally work 12-14 hr days so when I return to my room I drink a few beers, eat, shower, and sleep. This job I'm coming home from right now had TOO much down time and I'm seriously pissed I didn't bring my small interface and guitar. I'd also be a bit weary about letting gear in the room all day while housekeeping does their thing. You never know.

But back on topic, if I were to take a mobile rig, it'd be laptop, m audio fast track pro, and axe. Maybe headphones instead of monitors.

My mobile setup used to be also my main setup: Laptop + Line6 Toneport UX1 + Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones.
Two years ago I replaced the laptop (well, it died) with an iMac. The rest is the same, so it's not mobile anymore .
One day, if the worlds economy gets healed and there's decent amount of audio business I might go for a serious setup, but for now I can't justify anything else.

My mobile setup in my laptop with Sonar X2, my V-Studio 100, and a pair of ATH M50 headphones. I can fit it all in my backpack and carry my guitar - that's all I need to write.

I did the whole laptop + headphones + amp sims last year and didnt want to do it again. We stay in very nice extended hotels. No I don't pack every night, typically 4 weeks at a time. Only doing approx 60hrs a week so plenty of downtime!

+1!

I'm currently annoyed at having to name-organize more than 500 files, though

(I should be doing that just now, instead of being here )

Tell that to the rolling-suitcase-style case I haul my 27" around in. :heh:

Fuck, why didn't I think about that before...

I moved from Hungary to Spain last month, and I had to bring it in the plane, so I thought I'd be safe if I put it in a big hard rolling suitcase with lots of blankets and pillows, and check it in.
When I opened the case all I saw was shattered glass... :zombie:
Anyways, the main glass broke, so I brought it to the local computer repair store, they removed the rests of it (it's attached with magnets) and now I use it without the glass.
But you know, it's a Mac, so everything works just as fine...

I've broken my glass panel before, it cost about $65 to replace! really not bad. Here's the case though:

Much worse is the price for that pile of nylon fabric :zombie: sure doesn't look like it'd withstand much. But I guess looks can be deceiving?

On the topic, I have a Mac Mini that fits pretty much in any backpack or bag (maybe even a REALLY large pocket  ), so provided where I'm going has any displays or HDMI tv:s, it's the most portable computer I've ever had. If I did more traveling with my gear I would probably get some smaller and cheaper monitor to carry around, though.

For just writing and stuff like that, I probably wouldn't even take my Saffire Pro 40, but instead maybe a Duet, again if I traveled more. And of course my trusty m50's.

Really well padded, hard plastic piece protecting the screen, super durable casters and a high quality handle. Inner padded sleeves for keyboard/mouse, front pocket for misc. stuff (mine holds power cable/external CD drive, internal was swapped for an SSD). Sortof expensive but it's been well worth it IMO.
