When is the next reveal?

Raintime is an oddball, unless we've now decided that death vocals are normal for ProgPower.

I hope that isn't the case.

Pink Cream 69 was the oddball in a year that had both Orphaned Land and Therion, bands who use harsh vocals a hell of a lot more than Raintime.

And - correct me if I'm wrong - but wasn't Freak Kitchen the oddball last year? Mattias doesn't use any harsh vocals...

Hey Glenn, what time on Thursday? Because I have class from 3-6 so anytime but then, please ;-).

Heh..I was referring to the Raintime being the oddball part instead of death vox becoming the norm. That's not going to happen.
a man can dream dude!

not to mention PC69 being the oddball the year before that...

Yeah, I was kinda hoping that the new oddballs would mainly be odd in that they were softer, rather than more death metal. Freak Kitchen works for me as well.

But I don't know if I could sit through a lineup with half the bands using death vocals.

Who said there had to be an oddball every year? :Smug:

And who said there only had to be one oddball? IMO there were 3 distinct oddballs at PP VII.

PC69 and Freak Kitchen were my two favorites from the last two Prog Powers. Keep it up Glen!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow...what a totally unenlightened, close-minded statement...

(This is coming from someone that doesn't really appreciate harsh vox...but still digs Raintime).

It begs the questions that has been plaguing metal for years...

Why the fuck do we feel the need to sub-genre-lize and label the shit out of every band that comes down the pike?

"Symphonic-progessive-death-like-power metal"...give me a break!

Cut me some slack. I've tried, very hard, to get into bands that use death vocals. I really, really, wanted to like Children of Bodom, In Flames, Sentenced and Mercenary. I did end up liking Orphaned Land and I LOVE one Mercenary song, 11 Dreams(although strangely nothing else).

I just don't see what death vocals add to a song that clean singing couldn't convey just as well.

As for what an oddball is, it used to be we knew right away who the oddball was. In the last two Progpowers we couldn't agree. Everyone thought Orphaned Land was a perfect oddball, but then Glenn says it's PC69. Last year we had Mercenary(who was the PPIV oddball), but the real oddball was Freak Kitchen.

I'm thinking that death vocals are now standard and anything that is more rock than metal is now oddball. Which means either we're getting a good hard rock band this year or two or three death vox bands.

My guess is the next announcement is going to be in the one of the bottom three slots, something on the caliber of Vision Divine from last year would be nice.

Unenlightened, close minded? No...it's his opinion & he is entitled to it. Maybe it is you that has been brainwashed into thinking that screaming & growling into a microphone is talent and you should accept it. There are others that believe it's not a talent and we can't understand when it became "uncool" to actually sing. Opinions vary obviously.

It's called "describing what the music sounds like". It makes a hell of a lot more sense than saying, "It's metal! Listen to it!"
