Where the fuck is the Avatar thread?

In short, I thought it was visually amazing of course, and the story didn't bother me much at all. I'm basically with Eric in the line of thought that if you think the story ruined the movie then you're gay and lying to yourself, and you should probably just stop watching movies altogether. I mean if you're going to shit all over everything this movie has to offer just because you feel the story isn't the most original, well then there's probably not much left for you to gain from watching Hollywood productions anymore.
OMG, I'm gay and I'm lying to myself!!! :yow:
haha.. ok, I didn't expect a sophisticated story, so I wasn't disappointed.. lol (And I rarely watch these huge sci-fi/action hollywood productions anyways. The last one was The Dark Knight, which was actually a great movie.)

Finally and went and saw it last night in IMAX 3D.
It was amazing! I loved it!
Every single aspect of the movie, the visuals, the cast, the storyline- It was amazing!

This kind of story line never gets old.

One of the interesting things is that the analogy is so loose it can be applied to so many different events/eras, and in that respect it's really a story about human beings generally and has a certain amount of resonance.

Saw it today. Easily one of the most beautiful movies ever. I think you almost have to see it in 3D. The story was pretty good, at least enough to keep me interested throughout. The world Cameron created is just spectacular.

Just got back from it, I'm slightly overwhelmed, it was fucking great...so great that no amount of corny lines could suck away any of the awesome. The world Cameron created and the creatures that inhabit it, wow, just wow.

I couldn't agree more!!! :kickass:

Unfortunately i didnt enjoy myself as much as Russell did. I liked looking at the screen with all the fun 3D action and prettiness, but the plot was facepalmingly bad. Yeah i saw that movie before, only it wasnt in space and it starred Kevin Cosner, and it was much more awesome. :|

Cameron got so much shit from people about the storyline... as if other fantasy movies were not predictable... as if Star Wars was not predictable..
It was a great movie, and to be honest?
I think they aren't ENOUGH movies about this subject or with this storyline at all.
It never gets old. Never.

Of course Star Wars was predictable, it was a remake of that Kurosawa movie, in space

Just got home from seeing this (finally). So glad we held out for the 3-D version. You know, the story was easily recognizable, but still, like Karen said, it never gets old. And there were some minor little twists to it. You know, like the natives won. :D

To me, the most amazing thing was that the movie, regardless of the story line, created an entire alien world. It wasn't just a look back at our history, it a "here's how it might have looked somewhere else". And that said, the somewhere else was absofuckinglutely infuckingcredible. No. Really. It was that amazing. I could have cared less about the mining, the name of the ore, the resemblance of the natives to Native Americans or anything else anyone was talking about. Mostly, I just totally dug the whole concept of the planet they dreamed up. The effects were so cool! I loved the phosphorescence and the flying critters! Ooo! And the floating mountains!

Just in general, I'd recommend it to anyone who doesn't feel a need to pick movies apart, as an epic bit of entertainment.

Hey I'm just glad that at this point I don't have to hear about Titanic anymore in my life because Cameron finally said to himself "I gotta get that corny mushy old piece o shit movie of mine off that impenetrable fucking wall of cash, I mean jesus it only actually had one good scene the entire three hours and even Kate Winslet's tits couldn't save people from boredom."

Just saw it with Andrew for valentines day! I adored it! It was amazing in 3D!

It's like Ferngully meets Princess Mononoke/Nausicaa of the valley of the wind. Love!
The attention to detail was incredible, especially the facial expressions. Every movement was well executed and convincing, and there was some nice character development.

Btw, I haven't been so happy to see a villian die in a long time, ha

The Na'vi reminded me of a mixture of Maasai and plains Indians...just a nice mixture of several indigenous peoples/ blue alien cats

Go see this movie while it's still out in 3D...the theatre experience is worth the money
