Which artists this year are producing their best work to date?

si, dame trash metal terrorismo

and to answer JK's question ... I don't think any metal band has been "pushing the envelope" for a long time.

 There was an SOT thread about that a few days ago, and someone linked to it. Before my time, but yeah, hilarious.

only because you think metal has to involve leather fringe and motorcycles on stage. :loco:

ok, maybe :loco:

but really ... something different for God's sake ... there have been a lot of very exciting new releases from new and old bands ... but "pushing the envelope"?

NADA!

Mournful Congregation - The Monad of Creation

Absolutely.

And even though I've plugged Portal 2942 times this year...

With Seepia PORTAL’S vision of utter horror is destined to invert the death metal scene as one of the most unique and most intimidating visionaries ever conceived. Deprived, artsy and morally-impaired, through a twisted mind-fuck of oppressive histrionics and with the class of classic avant-garde cinema, PORTAL re-define artistic and cinematic dementia within death metal.

kthxbye

Finally, some interest

Vessel of Balon

I feel I should mention, this is best listened to at night under the influence of something. Daylight doesn't suit it. It's also very muddy and obscure, so don't dismiss it without listening to it a few times :erk:

yousendit's coming up in a minute too.

it is 1 Am and am under the influence of a huge Snickers Almond bar ... will give my thoughts ... although everyone here knows I have the attention span of a fly ... so this might not be for me ... hmm

nice ... short tune ... gave it 2 spins. I lreally liek this and want to hear more.
on first listen it sounds when it starts ... seems all the instruments are goign to run away and you will get a big mess with some homdrum production ..

but it quickly regains its structure and actually grooves ... it's strange ... sound like Death Metal but it does not at the same time ... I think you MITHRAS lovers would dig this ... they seem to have similar "themes" as well.

There is some old school sounding bombastic section half way during the track ...

It stuck with me ... also ... not the norm as I usually like polished shit ... but this production suits this to a tee.

Glurmphonel
The Endmills

hmm ... that first track you had was really good ... these other two are little "wall of noise" like.
Especially The Endmills ... totally reminds me of Axis of Perdition.
I don't think I could handle this band for more than 2-3 songs straight ... they have a cool vibe ... just a little OTT for me.

I had thought of including Pelican in my first post, but since Fire In Our Throats is only their second full-length, they don't have enough of a back catalogue to measure it against. And Meshuggah just slipped my mind, probably because I have yet to see anyone declare C33 their best.
