Which Band Would You NOT MIND SO MUCH If They Stopped Making Music

MAYH and Still Life was their peak. They're getting too progressive now.

DMDS

and so was Morningrise.

for me it would be.....

Blind Guardian
Amon Amarth (the dm version of dragonforce)
Iced Earth
Metallica (I'd be soooo happy)
Sonata Arctica (they had their time)
Ulver (unless they go back to bm or make a better album than blood inside)

Opeth. At that piece of garbage called Ghost Reveries, I've decided that I think they really should stop, otherwise they could release a pop album and the entire Opeth forum ends up masturbating furiously over it.

GR is their best release to date. It epitomizes Mikael's signature style of composing music (for now). Nice try though.

Judas Priest... maybe.

Now, I love JP. I mean love. For my money, the greatest band of all time- not just metal band, greatest band. However, as much as I liked Angel of Retribution, it just wasn't as good as their other albums (for the record, by the way, I loved Point of Entry and Turbo). Aside from "Deal with the Devil", I don't think any of the songs from that album really stand out. The reason I think that they should maybe stop is, aside from the fact that they're pretty old, I'd hate the see them really start to slip. Sure, some would say that they already have, but it'd kill me (maybe even for real, folks) if they slipped to a Metallica-like place. If the upcoming album insn't really good- say, Ram It Down good- I think they should call it a career.

Of course, if they could harness time travel and go back to release a few more 1970's albums, I'd be all for that.

Ghost Reveries has some of opeth best concepts and just needs to be expanded and worked on. The addition of Per Wiberg adds a lot of dimention to the band and he's actually a tasteful keyboardist and does not sound fake or symphonic.

Morbid Angel
Bal-Sagoth
Sunn0)))

All have been great, but just don't need to do anything else.

i thought sunn's last album was an interesting new direction and i'm pretty interested to see where they'll go next :/

First one that comes to mind is Borknagar. Their first album was pretty good, although not mind blowing or anything, but their last few albums have been absolutely awful.

.

Blind Guardian
Amon Amarth (the dm version of dragonforce)

1. No, they've still got some juice left. They lost something when Thomen left, but I'm interested to see what direction they take with their new sound.
2. NO. Absolutely not. Amon Amarth has always and will likely continue making wonderful music for years to come. Just because they're gaining attention does not make them suck.

1. whatever.

2. I never said their fame made them teh suck. I just saying.....amon is the dm equivilient of dragonforce in the sense that they're both repetitive.

I'm adding Bolt Thrower to the list as well. Obvious reasons.

Not to me. Bolt Thrower are one of the few old school DM bands to have never released a clunker, and I continue to enjoy their albums when they are released.

I would personally say...

a) Slayer - It really is time that they either quit altogether or took different musical side bands to explore other themes before returning. Tired doesn't even begin to explore it.

b) Skyclad - Often, I don't mind when vocalists change, but Skyclad without Martin just isn't worthy of the name - sorry.

c) Darkthrone - Just because I tire of their shtick.
