Which is the SM57 of condensor mics?

I seriously thought I was the only one. I've never found a use for the 87 in which I didn't prefer another mic.

I've never understood the hype about 87's, they're not a bad mic, but way overpriced for what they are. I used to do vocal mic shootouts with some other higher end mics, and the 87 would lose every time.

also, FWIW, the AT 4033 sounds damn near exactly like a U87ai, not quite as thick in the bottom end though

As I have seen, condensors mics are naturally more expensive than dynamic ones due to their construction and electronics.

I was looking for something affordable but I see that their prices are about 400€ if I want something good enough. I'll go for the 414.

The only decent mic in the price-range of a sm57 I could recommend is Studio Projects B1. Obviously if you can afford something a bit better then I'd say AT4040.

Good choice, you won't be disappointed. It's a versatile and very good sounding mic.
