The post about "I found a new band to hate" gave me the idea of asking people from this forum about the styles of metal.
Yeah, I know there are many other subgenres, but i think with these 9 is mostly covered.

WTF Where's DOOM METAL? You missed that :-P

I would have to say right now... symphonic dark metal

If I woudl have posted 100 options, I'm sure someone would ssay: "You forget to mention Melodic Erotic Picnic Metal".

Anyway I will try to include anothe category. if I don't suceed, choose the most suitable.

Hahahahahaahahah, while that may be, forgetting melodic death (In Flames, Soilwork, Insomnium, Dark Tranquillity) is inexcusable! :p

When I listen to metal it tends to be some form of filthy shit, either hardcore with metallic elements or technical death metal/brutal death metal.

So I'd say death metal.

As much as i have branched out over the years , and gotten into every style of metal (and every style of music for that matter), i think Black Metal will always be my "home" genre.

as an example: last night i stayed up late, watching dvds and listening to music. when i was going to bed the sun was just about to come up, and when i saw that brightness on the horizon from my bedroom window the first thing that came into my head was "False Dawn" by Drudkh. even though i had spent the whole night listening to jazz and watching Monty Python, when i saw a beautiful sight it was Black Metal that accompanied it as a soundtrack.

I'll never be able to shake it off :D

truth be told...from that list it´s easier to say that i really don´t listen to NuMetal or 'core's crabcore´s and things as such.
i´m Pretty much oldskool:rock:

I like the best bands in each style, from power to black to thrash to symphonic to speed to "goth" to glam to blabla. But I will admit I am not a big fan of nu metal and I rarely listen to death metal. Basically I like metal with synths but not only but mostly.

And I thought these days folk metal was big?
