Who do you want for BAR Fest 2008?

I'm not too familiar with this band, YET, but i just heard a tune on the online prog. radio station that i have been listening to a ton lately (awesome variety and selection) and it kicked a ton of ass! :kickass: The tune was called 'Broken Psyches' and it was awesome. Maybe later after i get home from work i will request some more Thessera. From the couple tunes i have heard i'd have to say that they would be awesome. :kickass:

And for some reason i didn't even think to check out the array of links you supplied there........doing that now. Thanks Brett.

No problem Fabio, I just love this band and think they are definitely the next big thing out of Brazil. Their momentum is building. Broken Phsyches is a monster tune. The entire Fooled Eyes album is fantastic, I can't wait til their next album. I mean, if this is their first attempt the skies the limit for these talented guys..

They seem like a perfect blend of Dream Theater and Pain of Salvation or something but proggier plus they have their own kind of classical/jazz thing going too.LIsten to the last 2 minutes of that "Party's On" video they rip it up! :headbang: :headbang:

I think they'd make a perfect middle slot band for this fest..

I'll second this; I've wanted to see Andre perform live for years and years, it'd be a major coup to be the festival that brings him to the US. Another band I've been dying to see in the US is Tarot.

I'd also love to see Lion's Share..or Artension/Vitalij Kuprij..or DGM..or Lana Lane..*peruses cd racks* I could go on and on..*g*

Just noticed your nod for Vitalij Kuprij.......:headbang: . That would be awesome! He has been involved with some great stuff and that in which i have heard of his solo work is top notch. I will throw in a big thumbs up for this suggestion.

Tarot would be alright. Though honestly i bought "Suffer Our Pleasure" and expected it to rock and i was very dissapointed. Didn't think that it was very good. :Smug:

DGM would be killer!! :kickass:

You've been doing an amazing job, so far! :kickass: Here are a few bands I'd love to see:

Heed
Machine Men
Tarot
Paradise Lost
Cornerstone
Poisonblack
Perzonal War

:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

Heed would be awesome! Anything that Heiman touches instantly is gold. His vocals make me go a little like this.....:loco:.

Machine Men would be cool as well. :headbang:. As for Tarot.....as i said above, wouldn't be overly excited for it. Although i'm sure they would kick my ass once i was actually seeing them. As for the rest of your suggestions......i'm adding them all to my list of bands to check out. I have heard a couple songs from Paradise Lost but the others will be new sounds to these ears. Cool Man! Got more suggestions? Keep 'em coming.

Poisonblack would be awesome!
Anything that get Ville on a stage near me is cool with me!!

I miss Sentenced!! Why did they have to die!!!! :D

Poisonblack isn't Sentenced but it's the closest thing!

Bring 'em!

Hey you guys ever heard of Bay Area based, instrumental trio that call themselves Maximum Indifference? I just heard two of their songs on an internet radio station and they were Awesome!!! I was feeling the music a ton. I was in a trance while the two tunes played. You know how when you're really into a tune everything else just seems to fade away.......that's how these tunes were. The band has two discs out and i think i'm going to get one (maybe both). http://www.maximumindifference.com/evidence/. Here's the link to check out a few of their tunes.

I guess what i'm trying to get at is.........do you all think that there is any possibilities of an instrumental band making a festival lineup (BARfest particularly)? There are a ton of great instrumental bands in the genres featured at this fest. So......????

Also a couple suggestions for the day:

Kings X - A band that i would love to check out and i think they would get the love deserved at this great new festival.

Labyrinth - Have a ton of good stuff out. Would appeal to both fans of Power and Prog.

Ayreon - Surprised this hasn't been suggested yet...or has it? Well if it has i am suggeting it again. If it hasn't, then this is the first but surely not the last.

............:kickass: :kickass: :kickass:.................

Dude I play instrumental, its my thing...I would love to have a instrumental band play the fest sometime, but maybe it would be a pre party thing? Not sure, we would have to see how it would fit in???

Check out a Vinnie Moore song I did!!

I really like the suggestions on the Prog Rock side like Arena, Sieges Even, Riverside, Marillion & Porcupine Tree. Although PT has played in SF so many times lately I'm not sure we would go for them. I had never heard of 3 until they were suggested on this thread. I really liked what I heard and will definitely pick up the new CD when it comes out.
The one I would like to throw in the hat on this side of Prog would be A.C.T.

Now on the Prog Metal side the suggestions are so vast that it is going to be hard to narrow it down with all the new material coming out from bands like Circus Maximus, Symphony X, Kamelot, Nocturnal Rites, etc.
I would like to make another suggestion...Lion's Share with Patrik on vocals!
Also, in reference to what the gentelman was talking about as far as Asia & Australia you are right that this is the part of the world we would certainly like to draw upon to make us a unique festival.
So... with that I would like to toss another legendary band from Japan in the hat...CONCERTO MOON!!!!

That's all for now.

:headbang: AWESOME!!! :headbang:

That's some good stuff Bear. Yeah I think having an instrumental band would be very cool. Whether it be a showcase situation or even the main fest. Can't wait to see what unfolds. :kickass:

A couple suggestions for the day......

Cea Serin - Awesome Stuff! Love their debut disc "...Where Memories Combine...". Assuming that they have another disc out next time around, they would be a great 2nd slot addition to the Fest.

Beyond Twilight - This would be killer. They have put out some mindblowing stuff. I loved their latest release. BT would be awesome to see.

---------------> :kickass: :kickass: :kickass: <---------------------

I am been wearing out of my copy of Nocturnal Rites "8th Sin", so I would love to see them make their second North American appearance.

I saw them in Chicago a couple years ago, they were awesome. Great guys and Nils Norberg is a guitar god in the making, dude has some serious chops from hell!!!!

I'd love to see Nocturnal Rites!! I wanna see Tad Morose again too...

Anybody heard of Vougan from Brazil... That country is puttin' out so many awesome bands right now... Vougan is awesome shit! Check them out...

http://www.myspace.com/vougan

They sound pretty awesome. A few kickass tunes, and then 'Unspeakable'..........left me speechless (some beautiful piano work), followed by another asskicker. Another nice suggestion by SB.

A couple suggestions of my own for BARfest '08........

Mechanical Poet - They are a very kickass prog. band from Russia with some very unique stuff. I love everything i have heard from them. Check them out here, http://www.myspace.com/mechanicalpoetband, if you aren't already familiar. If you are familiar then you probably would agree that they would be great to check out.

Space Odyssey - Just kickass stuff! I know at least six people who would kill to see this project do a show around these parts. A couple of them don't even listen to this type of music but still SO kicks their asses everytime.

Aghora - Kickass Prog Metal Band based in Florida. Has a female singer who i think sounds awesome. They would be awesome and i'm sure many who re familiar would agree. http://www.myspace.com/aghora

:kickass: :kickass: :kickass:

I was just listening to Aghora and thought they would be a good choice. They are really good and feature I believe 2 members of Cynic in the band.
