'Don't Burn the Witch' was Venom's best, and it was great. But Bathory was better, both lyrically and musically. And more to the TOPIC, was much more influential to BM.

[/IMO]

Bathory, obviously.

The prime concept was conceived by Venom, Mercyful Fate took it more seriously and Hellhammer/Celtic Frost added the looks and corpsepainting, but all the musical concept was created by Bathory at the begining.

However, Celtic Frost were the creators of Doom Metal.

:zombie:

wtf

you seem like a good guy and all, with good taste in music, but please, please, please attempt to post actual facts instead of making things up. If you don't know any, do some research.

Are you talkin to me? What are you talkin about, if I'm allowed to ask?

Okay....

Venom created the concept, yes. Mercyful Fate is the corpsepaint band you are thinking of. Celtic Frost added some other influnce in a totally different way than Venom did, and thats right, with NO corpsepaint.

And to say Celtic Frost created Doom Metal is probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my entire life, ever. I'm not trying to be mean, you should just get your facts straight.

Maybe King Diamond/Mercyful Fate painted their faced before Hellhammer, but their looks were nearer to Kiss than Immortal, so I really think that the classic BM corpsepaint was more related to Hellhammer.

About Doom Metal, Black Sabbath created something bigger than just that sub-genre. Doom metal harmony and poliphonics were first used, with its slow rythm, by Celtic Frost (Into the Pandemonium) and Candlemass (first doom band, maybe).

No, see, Black Sabbath is the first Doom Metal band, therefore they created the genre. It's actually very simple.

And Celtic Frost hardly used any facepaint at all in the 80s, just a little bit of black around the eyes at times. And to suggest that they were the first band to come decked out in leather and spikes is really just laughable.
No, see, the music that Black Sabbath played as not Doom Metal because they did not play the same kind of chords, rythm structures etc. They did not play doom metal, so they are not the first doom band. Is even simpler than you think.

About Celtic Frost, they really didn't use a facepaint, as you say, but they did when they were called Helhammer. I didn't suggested that they were the first band to come decked out in leather and spikes, but the first one to take it the way that black bands took in the 90's, because as I see it that way. I don't find many coincidences between Darkthrone and Mercyful Fate, but I find them between Darkthrone and Hellhammer. You disagree, ok, there's no absolute truth here.

Try explaining how they're not Doom Metal and maybe I won't sit in awe in front of my computer screen about how blatantly stupid you seem to be. Black Sabbath (or rather, Tony Iommi, out of necessity), created the style of playing that would later become known as Doom Metal. Do you not listen to Black Sabbath or something? Or maybe only the Dio era? I can understand how you would reach this conclusion by not having heard the band, but if you've ever heard their eponymous track, as most people have, I don't see how you can logically come to the conclusion that they're not Doom Metal, unless your definition of Doom Metal is My Dying Bride, which it is not, since you brought up Candlemass, who ironically covered Black Sabbath.

Actually they pretty much dressed the same.

It seems that you consider Black Sabbath doom metal just because they did slow songs. Am I right? If I am, you should notice that it's not a great reason really. I have heard the first albums by BS with Ozzy, don't worry about that. Have you studied music? I ask because if you have I can tell you whatever you want to know.

Name one band that played in the style of Black Sabbath before them. Name one guitarist who used the methods of Tony Iommi before him. Please, try to do that. It's not because "they did slow songs."

You're the only person in the entire world that doesn't consider Black Sabbath Doom Metal. Basically you proposed no argument whatsoever except "No they're not," and now with the added twist of "I studied music theory and therefore have the right answer."

The guitar technic that Iommi used (because of his accident) was used after him by all heavy metal guitarists. He created the guitar technic for heavy metal.

Name one band that used the same technic of Candlemass and Celtic Frost before them.

My opinions on the matter : Black Sabbath played the first doomy sounding riffs in metal. Their music had many dark themes in it, especially for the time. It's entirely possible that Black Sabbath had some inspiration on doom metal bands. It's probable that classical music has at least as much influence for many of metal's genre's, especially doom, black, shred, and power metal.
Black Sabbath was a unique band, and not many bands sound like them, though many use their ideas.

( Anyone know of any good Black Sabbath sounding bands ? Opthalamia (Via Dolorosa) is one, in the Black metal genre)

On a point of order, King Diamond is clearly the progenitor of Corpsepaint. His face paint isn't really related to Kiss make up at all, what with the common place appearance of inverted crosses, "666" insignia etc. (Not withstanding the aborted Kiss vs Diamond lawsuit of about 83/84 ?)
