Who would of thunk it...

...but Headbangers Ball actually introduced me to a couple of bands.

Couple of weeks ago they had a video from Insomnium and I immediately bought their new CD "Above the Weeping World" and it rips. They remind me of Dark Tranquility without the keyboards. Good stuff.

This weekends Ball (that I watched last night) had a band called Daath which plays a killer combo of melodic death and really catchy thrash. The CD is called the Hinderers. The weird thing was after I watched it, I checked to see what goodness The End Records had and one of the new CD's for the day was the Daath CD - so I ordered it. I think it was a sign of some sort.

I've noticed that I've been fast forwarding less and watching more of the Ball lately. They even played an old Sacred Reich video on the last show. Maybe they are coming around a little.

If you like Insomnium's new album, get "In The Halls Of Awaiting"

Probably their best release IMO...

The last two CDs I purchased after being introduced to the band by HBB were TNT - Tell No Tales and Only Child - s/t. I guess that dates me...

I think Hatebreed is overhyped (maybe they put on a killer live show, but their studio output left me pretty blah), one thing I'll give Jasta credit for is showing a Malmsteem video a year or so back where he just introduced and showed it with a straight face. He didn't smirk at the camera or otherwise indicate that he was "above" it. I can't see him liking Malmsteem (but who knows?), but it was cool of him to respect people who do. And FWIW, this was before the sudden explosion of mainstream interest in power metal.

I was flipping by Metal Mania the other day and there was a video for Queensryche's "Queen of the Reich" on....yikes, it was hilarious...:zombie:

Yeah, but when it first came out, I thought it was about the coolest thing I had ever seen (or heard!)

I actually have HBB to thank for introducing me to Evergrey and that ultimately led me to ProgPower. I also first heard of Cellador on there. While the show is nowhere near as good as it was back in its prime (late 80's early 90's,) it still has some shining moments - even if they are brief.

I still TiVo the show each week and usually fast-forward through 95% of the show, but I'm still hoping to find another diamond in the rough.

I have begun this practice as of this week. I've found that actually watching the good parts only takes about fifteen minutes.

Boy howdy, they sure show a lot of ads, don't they?

Of interest on this week's show was the Ballet Deviare segment. I think Arsis, including our own Noah Martin, were going to be part of that. :headbang:

One of? Maybe.

But I prefer - Megadeth, Porcupine Tree, Within Temptation, and Dream Theater.

Porcupine Tree aren't signed to RR. They just have a liscencing deal with their distro in the UK.

And RR didn't discover Megadeth, Within Temptation, or Dream Theater so it doesn't make it as special. Daath rules.

And WHAT?! Insomnium on HBB?! Nice.

I honestly can't tell you what channel MTV2 is on much less watch Headbanger's Ball. I do remember watching it for a few minutes a year or two back when they played Fates Warning's video from the X disc. I about fainted when they played it too! :OMG: I watched it religiously back in the day though.

I had to look at the list of programming to find it to record it because I couldn't find MTV2. Luckily Time Warner digitial has some nice settings to look for shows when you don't know what channels or where those channels are.
