Who's stuff is the most diffucult to play(guit.)

Ynwie may have contributed to the neo-classical application to metal/rock. But if you listen to his actual song writing, there isn't an ounce of prog in them. From marching out to his latest, his songs are basic metal rhythms with fast scale leads. Even his instrumentals. I've been listening to Malmsteen since the late '80's, so this isn't a bash by no means. It's just what I hear when I listen to his songs.

Now Kansas, Yes, Rush, Dream Theater, Fates warning, etc are definitely good examples of the prog scene.

Saying Yngwie is the first to adapt classical bach-ish type stuff to rock / metal guitar is like saying Eric Clapton was the first to adapt blues to rock guitar. Its simply False.....

I've too often read it though.

finally.

i was starting to get skeptical of this thread...

i like more his ego than his music. or in his one instruction vid when he starts speaking swedish and goes " oh, sorry" LOL the guy is funny.

We've all seen it. There was a thread about him a while back. He's a rediculous guitarist.

i still disagree since practically every prog metal band has some Bachish reference in the music. a trend that yngwie started himself. not to mention a lot of lead guitarists sound yngwie-ish.

Watch this.

Yngwie's. Music. Has. Nothing. In Common. With. Bach.

He only uses harmonic minor scales. That really doesn't have much to do with Bach. In fact, Bach would be embarassed that Yngwie names him as an influence. Listen to "Bach Mach" by Greg Howe if you want to hear something that actually accurately makes what you call a "Bachish reference."

Yngwie's acoustic song on the G3 dvd is the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. He comes on stage and plays a bunch of harmonic minor shred wankery with his band, then converts to the acoustic guitar and does EXACTLY THE SAME THING! It is not impressive, it is not musically interesting and it is not worth the shit on my boots.

That said, I should probably devote some of my time listening to Paul Gilbert and Rusty Cooley, because I want to learn to play faster, but dont actually listen to much by these guys.

I think that if anybody can do Adam Fulara's 2 hand tapping style in a shredding manner, they'd be the most musically insane guitarrist to ever live. But what relevance does this have to this thread? I have no idea.

I don't think so......the electric guitar is so much more a melodic instrument than a harmonic instrument. Much like Saxophone. You can do multiple notes, but it doesn't really sound very good. Not quite to the extent of saxophone....but it still doesn't sound as good as single notes.

I meant.......if you play dual lines together it would sound bad on a single distorted electric guitar in my opinion.
