Why are we drawn here by Opeth?

Was it the messages portrayed in the music? Was this done by music or lyrics?
A magnetic effect surrounding Opeth?
Fate?
A common bond?
Were we somehow connected in our prior lives? (only if you believe in re-incarnation)

I ask this because it's a curious thing that most people who frequent this messageboard have a deeper intellect than most. Not book smart, street smart, etc. - just some sort of a mind and spirit which sometimes seems to border that ellusive fourth dimension. It transcends any age or gender barrier.

So, I ask myself and now you - am I the only one who sees this? Am I dillusional, or do I have clear vision?

sounds good to me...except the people that dont respect opeth for what they are..... ... like the opeth fans that like opeth becuase 1. its catchy and 2. it has brutal screaming..... i mean fucking fans that know what opeth is about !

Opeth is one of those rare bands that incorporates some sort of mystic spirituality in their music... Personally, I am more muved by the music itself than by the lyrics, but the lyrics themselves are some of the best that I have ever had a chance to read.
In any case, I do believe that one's ability to appreceate Opeth reflects the deepness of their personality and complexity of their intelect...I personally know only a few people who actively listen to Opeth, and they are all quite unique individuals, but we have experienced some interesting episodes of thinking the exact same thing at the same time...This has happened too many times to be reffered to as accidental occurance. What's even more interesting is that this sort of a thing has never happened to me when I was with my parents or my sister, and we have the same fucking genes. Call me crazy, but I think that one's personality and their way of thinking is strongly reflected in their musical taste, therefore people who like Opeth are more likely to get along with each other. Well that's what I think anyway....Chaos!

I don't know if I'd chalk this one up to mystical connections or divine guidance anytime soon. We're all Opeth fans, we went to the official website one day, the link for this forum was there, we came here, we found it was a really cool place to meet other Opeth fans and that Opeth fans all seem like (surprise surprise) really cool people. I wouldn't read too much into the deepness or compatibility of Opethians as a result of our being able to find this forum, but that being said...

Not anybody can be an Opeth fan, can they? Not because they're not physically capable or anything, but there is a certain type of person who would seek out this band, listen to the music, and derive extreme amounts of satisfaction therefrom. We all know that the vast majority of music listeners in the world would listen to Opeth and simply not like it. Some because they can't get past the heavy vocals, some because the music is simply too good for them to comprehend, that largest chunk of the masses that is neither intelligent nor emotionally "evolved" enough truly grasp it (the herd), or brush it off because it deviates from the norm, which is, of course, forbidden in the herd mentality. Opethians are individuals, one small faction of those in this world with the intellect and sense of creativity, originality, and non-conformity to appreciate a form of art like this, and for us, this is the supreme example of the art which we relate to which binds us.

Now stop humping the laser.

Man, you certainly do have a way with words, don't you! That's cool though, and I agree.

What drew me to Opeth more than anything was the high and lows...continuous changes in the music and, of course, the lyrics. It opened an emotional...I don't know...whirlwind inside me. Now, as time goes on, I'm even more draw to them from reading Mikael's thoughts in the many interviews available. Seeing how the man thinks...and possibly how/why he comes out with what he does.

Emotions are very important to me, as I'm sure they are to all of you. It felt like Opeth made me realize/feel things almost 100 times more than before. I was talking to a friend who's not really passionate about music, but likes metal and I started going on and on and it was such an exciting conversation for me. When I finished, I realize that only I was interested in what I was saying...her interests were...elsewhere.

It's like, "Bummer." But, that's another reason why I'm here. I'm thankful that others like to talk about metal as much as I like to and I can read their lines and feel like I'm not alone in this passion.

I'm a huge Opeth fan and I spend a lot of my time on the Internet on message boards, so the mere existence of an Opeth BB would ensure my participation. In my case, I have known Ultimate Metal's webmaster for a long time, and therefore I knew about this forum even before it opened...he also recently agreed to host my recommendations column that originated as a weekly feature on the Iron Maiden BB.

I think we are all drawn here because of our passionate love for music. I mean it takes a certain type of person to love Opeth the way we all do and I feel we all think we have found the one band that maybe nobody can ever be as good as. But deep inside our souls we are all searching for great music and who else would you want to talk to about great bands besides an Opeth fan. I have come across some great new bands because of this board and I will forever be greatful to it. This board is like my internet home, it is usually the first place I go to when getting on the net.

I completely agree with that I visit a lot more message boards than this one. One that I frequently visit mostly for a good laugh is the Dimmu Borgir message board. I love the band and some of the posts on that forum make some sense and are worth reading. But today I actually read a guys post complaining about Shagraths "new look" they are judging Black Metal bands by their look. Which was kind of a smack in the face for me saying that it is turning somewhat more P.C. You guys are definately the best... Maybe I am contradicting myself here, this was kind of a pointless post as well. Oh Well...
