Why is all good music like Bodom from the North?

It's only natural for us to play a lot of dark music here, because 70% of the year it's cold, rainy and dark D:

i for one don't feel like writing music when it's raining

Europe has always been one up on the world when it comes to metal. Black Sabbath was from England, then the New Way British Heavy Metal which influenced alot of thrash metal, then from thrash came Death Metal and Black Metal.

I find in the summer I listen to more Pantera, Megadeth, Early Metallica, and more upbeat rock like Rush and Van Halen. Winter I'm more into Sonata Arcitca, Nightwish, Bodom, Norther, and more melodic death and Power Metal.

I think its mostly the history behind most of Scandinavia that does it, such as the Norsemen and resistance to convert to christianity. Some people still believe that christianity is somthing that was forced upon them, and that it has no place in scandinavia. This mantal aditude can affect alot when it comes to music and writing.

Also the Classical music roots in Europe. North america is more about blues and jazz influenced heavy metal, whereas if you look at somthing like bodom, you can hear a much more classical style. For example metallica's seek and destroy uses alot of Pentatonic blues, Children of Bodom's Red light in my Eyes :D

I dont think it has to do with Mountain ranges and Fjords and all that. Western Canada and United States have large mountain ranges, and you don't see hige melodic death coming out of there. Also when you see mountains and fjords every day your entire life, its not as impressive and its not even somthing you think about.

Ha ha ha I am glad I am from Norway!:P

As a Norwegian person myself I am happy cause we have a lot of great Metal!

Susperia, Stonegard , Satyricon and alot of others!

CoB weren't exaclty inspired by the Lake Bodom...they were inspired by the murder that took place at that lake...so yeah, that's not really a natural inspiration...or not scenery-wise natural.
+1. I've been to Lake Bodom, it's a really peaceful and beautiful place, not exactly the kind of place that could inspire powerful and aggressive music like COB's.

Exactly. I come from a very beautiful and forested (for Germany!) landscape, and it took me really long to realize and appreciate that. On the other hand, living in a scenic place could subconsiously influence someone's attitude and music. At any rate, Scandinavia rocks my metal world!

Luxx0rs...I come from the Netherlands....no great metal from here....I say its rather ghey. Ima make a band and change that :D

I just bought a Swedish flag to hang above my bed, In Flames tribute
