I heard thier self titled album, and IMO its better than bodom (new bodom, not hatebreeder). if Wintersun have more albums like this style and this good I think they will be how bodom would've been if they hadn't gone all nu metal.

I've read many interviews with jari and other ensiferum members in which they state that they don't really even like bodoms music and that their definately not influenced by them.
I'd have to say that wintersuns CD is now one of my favorite cds of all time along with moonsorrows - kivenkantaja ...bodoms - hatecrew deathroll ...in flames - subbteranian ... and sacreliges - fifth season/lost in the beauty you slay.

I'm going nuts over this Wintersun CD! It gets better with every listen, and I think I've been listening to it every day since...

I don't think that Wintersun or Ensiferum sound anything like COB but they are similar in style I guess.
I think Wintersun to me sounds way better than anything COB has done yet BUT before you fanboys start crying I do like COB too so calm down.

Let me play the fanboy role for a sec and ask some honest questions. I can't believe that so many people on this board find this even comparable to bodom. That sweep he does 30 seconds into the first song is the best part of the album and it's boring after that. Everything sounds similar and brings really nothing new to the table. i'll take any bodom any day.
I'm not sure if Jari - who is indeed without a doubt a great vocalist&guitarist - is better than Alexi technical-wise since I'm not really a musician myself, but I do find Alexi's solos far more interesting than Jari's. I don't think anyone will remember the Wintersun solos in 2 years. This isn't the case with for instance the stuff on Hatebreeder.

I´ve only heard Beyond the Dark sun and it sucks almost as bad as Imperanon. And thats REALLY bad.
yeah i guess they both do have interesting techniques. Jari sweeps the entire time and does nothing else and alexi adds great sweeps, bends, runs, scales, yada yada yada. By the way i'm sure alexi can play everything that guy plays on that album.

wintersun = insomnium + kalmah +stormlord....i think. i feel alot of insomnium more than any of the others. my first impression of the cd is that it had a feeling of bodoms Something Wild to it. but i like it none the less and i really do like the guitarists in this band. i hope they can keep up the good work and progress like bodom

The band is pretty much just Jari handling everything but drums, and Kai Haito from Rotten Sound on the drums.

about the bands that suposedly rip of COB, like norther, skyfire, kalmah or whatever, most of those bands didnt even know eachother existed when they first started, and like needled warheart kid said, its just cause they are in the same genre. also i think its cause bodom is more popular than the others, everyone assumes the bands rip off bodom. if kalmah was the most popular and then someone heard some unheard of band called COB theyd be like hey, they ripped off kalmah.

Jukka is a great pick for bass, IMO he is one of the better bass players in the Finnish scene. The bass god will always be Lauri Porra(Sinergy/Kotipelto/tons of other projects), but Jukka is highly skilled.
The thing about these other bands such as kalmah and skyfire, is that they came out a little bit later, although they may have not been influenced by bodom, nobody has improved on bodom's sound. I always find myself frantically flipping through my CD's to find bodom. The music is absolutely perfect.
