Worship music leaked

Boring? It's only one of the best thrash metal albums of all time

It's no wonder you like the Bush years. You probably aren't a thrash metal fan either. But whatever floats your boat

Yes, boring. And people just like you always say, "but...but it's one of the best thrash metal albums of all time!!!". Bullshit. It was a huge step forward from Spreading the Disease and it had some decent songs on it, but there was absolutely nothing memorable on that album to me. Persistence of Time kills it. SOWN kills it. Take off your nostalgia glasses, trim your mullet, and take your fingers out of your ears.

Dude, I've played in thrash metal bands. I've been listening to thrash metal since I was 11, and State of Euphoria was the first thrash album I got into. That was when it came out, not later. I remember watching the video on MTV in 1989 when I was 11 years old, wondering how the hell they were playing so fast. At the time I was into Motley Crue and Whitesnake and such...then I discovered Anthrax and Metallica. So just because I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon of fellating Among the Living doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about.

ATL for me is a story of two halves. Brilliant first half and a good second half.

POT & SOWN are superior albums in my book despite ATL having such classic songs on it. It just isn't a complete package like POT or SOWN.

I agree!

I'm not blown away with WM to be honest. Some of the songs are great, but the middle of the album, a couple of slow "ballad"s and the "atmospheric" thing? Bollocks.
Joey sounds great on it, but I'm just as big a fan of Bush's voice so I'm not too bothered who sang on it. I think, so far, after a couple of listens, WCFYA is a better overall album.

It must really suck to have such a hatred for Joey knowing that even most of the die hard Bush fans are praising his performance on Worship Music. I am sure you were praying that Worship Music would have sucked and everyone hated Joeys vocals on it. But it is pretty much the exact opposite. Most people think its a great album and most people think Joey sounds amazing on it. Sucks to be in your situation.

You may need to go get a box of tissues and go listen to some Volume 8

Hey you dildo loving Maidenboy - if you had read my previous posts - perhaps to some other thread - you would have noticed that I gave credit to Joey.

T:)

(who the fuck likes Iron Maiden anyway?)

Just stating my opinion on the new album like everyone else. And yeah I don't understand how anyone could think this is the best Anthrax album ever created. Especially when it's only been 'out' for a few days. The classic albums have been out 20+ years and still hold the test of time.

Often times when new albums come out people are so excited that they tend to get all emotional about the latest album.

Just about every time a band puts a new album out half the fans crown it the best album ever. Then after a year they change their tune.

I think that same thing will happen with this album.

If in a years time people are still saying Worship Music is better than Persistence of Time, Among The Living, Spreading The Disease, and Sound of White Noise I will take that seriously... for now I honestly think its just a bit of over reaction to a new album.

I can understand that since you put it that way.

Who says ATL is boring? I find it boring Anthrax must always play I am the Law, Caught In a Mosh and Indians Live. Frank does not seem bored waving his hand and making gestures when those songs are playing though.

Because they're fucking great?

And what, you don't like "Now It's Dark" either?! :erk:

The bridge in Now It's Dark is killer, but that's about it. Their best balls-to-the-wall thrash metal song imo is Finale, not to mention the AWESOME vocal line, I drink three six-packs just so I can look at your face...dun dun dun dun dununununun... Yes, songs like Deathrider are heavier and more raw, but that song nailed the energy of Anthrax at the time. Not even Gung Ho can stand up to it. Imo, of course. It had great hooks and even better dynamics.

When we say this or that album is better, I don't think it's fair, although it's a necessary evil we must do in order to catalogue our tastes. For me, Among the Living isn't that great because there's just nothing that grabs me in that album. Yes, it's light years ahead of what their past albums were doing, but their songwriting hadn't yet fully blossomed...AtL was the seed. Their future albums were much more dynamic than AtL.

Look, I can play fast too, much like a million other players. I can play just as fast as Scott Ian and probably just as tight (although I'd have to get my chops up on my down-picking a bit because I've been lazy lately :goggly:). However, only Scott can think up awesome riffs like he does...I can't do that. Among the Living was a step forward because it wasn't just 90 mile an hour speed metal for 50 minutes or so, but at the same time it wasn't yet what they were about to be capable of.

I'm not saying it's not an IMPORTANT album, I'm simply saying it's overrated. Judge it on its merits, not your nostalgia. So let's break it down:

Indians or Belly of the Beast?

I Am the Law or Keep it in the Family?

Caught in a Mosh or Finale?

NFL or Burst?

Among the Living or Time?

Imitation of Life or Finale?

One World or This is Not an Exit?

What about Potters Field? Only? Hy Pro Glo? Black Lodge? In My World? Be All, End All? Discharge? Gridlock? Antisocial? Make Me Laugh? Hell, even Stomp 442 was a better album...TESTER, anyone?

You can interchange any of those songs I listed with the entire album of AtL and they'll still come out on top. Why? They were more dynamic, more mature, and more musical.

That's just how I feel about it; of course I respect everyone's opinion because, after all, it's just my opinion.

I don't trust an Anthrax 'fan' that think ATL is 'boring'. Some people just gotta be contrary...

Yes, because it's your trust I'm truly after.

I'm not being contrary, I'm just not impressed with repetitive tremolo picking that doesn't go anywhere on top of a polka or 2/4 beat.

I'm astounded how people even mention that album in the same breath as Rust in Peace, Reign in Blood, Master of Puppets or AJFA when PoT is so clearly the victor over AtL.

Indians or Belly of the Beast? - INDIANS

I Am the Law or Keep it in the Family? I AM THE LAW / KITTF Close second

Caught in a Mosh or Finale? CAUGHT IN A MOSH

NFL or Burst? NFL EASILY

Among the Living or Time? AMONG THE LIVING / TIME IS CLOSE

Imitation of Life or Finale? IMITATION OF LIFE

One World or This is Not an Exit? ONE WORLD

What about Potters Field? Only? Hy Pro Glo? Black Lodge? In My World? Be All, End All? Discharge? Gridlock? Antisocial? Make Me Laugh? Hell, even Stomp 442 was a better album...TESTER, anyone?

Potters Field - nope, Only HELL NO, Hy Pro Glo NOPE, Black Lodge IF YOU LIKE GRUNGE I SUPPOSE ITS GOOD - IN MY WORLD YES GREAT, BE ALL END ALL = GREAT. Discharge, Gridlock = GREAT As for Stomp 442 better album than Among The Living = YOU ARE SMOKING SERIOUS FUCKING CRACK!

You can interchange any of those songs I listed with the entire album of AtL and they'll still come out on top. Why? They were more dynamic, more mature, and more musical. - YOU CAN TAKE YOUR "MATURE" and "DYNAMIC" Shit and go listen to Creed or Nickleback if that is all you look for in your music. This is ANTHRAX we are talking about here. Not a modern rock / radio rock band. And of course I respect your opinion as outrageous as it may be.

That's just how I feel about it; of course I respect everyone's opinion because, after all, it's just my opinion.

Answers above ^^^^^

I think its' valid saying Among The Living and Persistence of Time are just as good as each other.

But trying to compare Among The Living to Stomp 442 and saying Stomp 442 is better is just absurd. There is nothing 'dynamic' or 'mature' about Stomp 442, it is one of the worst albums besides Volume 8 and WCFYA they have ever done (IMO)

Just because of Tester and Riding Shotgun. If that album were composed of just those two songs, it'd still be better imo.

Everyone who's in love with AtL, tell me something: WHY do you think it's so great? And you can't say, "Duurrrr I just do!". The songs weren't as good as later albums, the musicianship wasn't nearly as good, the production wasn't that great, the hooks (if there were any) were bland and unmemorable, and it really wasn't that heavy. So please tell me what it is about AtL that has everyone's panties in a bunch whenever I claim it's boring. I've given you my reasons, now let's hear yours. I want explanations and comparisons.

Are you sure you listened to Among the Living?
