WTF is going on in London

I'm quite worried about how passive the Home Secretary is being about this....

same

I feel quite awkward being in favour of hard policing, but this shit needs to be stopped and many of the people involved made to face the consequences of their actions. Whether there is a legitimate cause or not, it's not doing anything good.

@mutant: the police are doing their very best here, but (as is true in pretty much every country) if enough people decide to riot, the police get very seriously stretched. Relocating police from other areas is happening, but in some ways this can simply encourage the riots to spread to new areas.

As far as bringing in the army....I'd hate to see it happen, but it may well end up being necessary in some areas in order to ease pressure on the police.

Tazers, pepperspray, rubber bullets, dogs, watercannons, a van that plays winger 24/7 through biggass speakers, GET THEM OUT AND DEAL WITH IT!

Seen videos of the "police".. just standing there and playing with the "rioters".. get the finger out and get it sorted, none of this has to do with oppression, it's crime.. sort it.

IMHO the London police are pussies...

Instead of just playing with them and showing them that what they are doing is tolerated, they should send lke ten times more officers there, treat all these rioters as they would treat any single lone criminal that would attack a police officer (anybody here knows what does the law say about attacking a police officer ???).

Just film them to get an evidence, arrest them, judge them, put them in the jail for minimum a year each.

No tolerance for the little pieces of shit.

End of story.

We don't HAVE ten times the amount of police officers available to us.

The military have been fighting a war for however many years. They're trained to use lethal force. Bring them in, and lots of people are going to die.

Kind of tired of all the punditry to be honest.

Yep, all the police we have were out.

Soldiers are trained to use lethal force, it doesn't mean they are just killing machines. They (not all) are also trained in riot control.
However their tactics are obviously more aggressive/heavy handed than the police, I think that their involvement could go either way.... either stamp this shit out very quickly, or simply escalate it.

For example here in Poland when a big fire emerges and there are not enough local firefighters, more are relocated from even quite far away.

What stops your authorities to do the same ?

Of course they should move in forces from areas that are not likely to explode with riots now.

Should be plenty of such safe areas in England...

The police in this country have no power at all , the moment a rioter get's injured there will be months of enquiries and officers losing their jobs . It makes me sick :Puke: Commit a traffic offense and they will hunt you down
like vermin but when it comes to serious public disorder ...... where are the water cannons , plastic bullets , tear gas ? I hope to fuck they grow some balls tonight and mete out some punishment .

Some people took Arch Enemy's Khaos Legions a bit to literally :tickled:

As soon as the media would back off, this will stop immediatelly. But since they won't, it's hard to find a way to stop it.

Possibly a curfew for the -18?

The problem is that most rioteers are provoking violence, but a possible answer with violence isn't the answer, but no reaction to it is bad as well.

It's just a whole difficult situation. This also happened a few years ago in France, right? Ask le french for advice .

This situation brings several things to my mind. There must be a large number of unemployed and undereducated young people that think they have little to fear and little to lose causing the problems.

Using the normal British army to suppress the problem should be a last resort and would cause all sorts of other problems. You do not want returning infantry soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan suppressing a riot.

I lived in a city that had a couple riots in the past. The city ended up dividing the cost of the riot up between the people arrested and charging them for it. It ended up being around 20,000 dollars per person.

It happend the same over here in genova some years ago.
Riot-> a bunch of guys attack (10 people or even more) 2 policemen ->guy launch a goddamn fire exstinguisher against policemen he wanted to kill->1 of the policemen shoot and kill the guy.
The policeman got arrested and went on trial

Basically the policeman who defended himself is beast, that guy with the exstinguisher is still considered a saint.
