Wtf is up with churches in the US?

HAHAHA Actually its a long retarded fucking story that end with me saying FUCK YOU RELIGION.

Mom is Roman Catholic and Dad's Jewish, the constant fights over what to do where to go, and how to be just got too much by the time I was 15 so I told them both to just shut the fuck up about it and went and found my own path.

I just cant avoid the jew in me man no matter what I do...lol

People go "OH SHIT YOUR A COHEN!" To me its nothing special, but as I am sure you know its like royalty in some parts of the country / world ...lol

I did the whole Israel thing, and visited the mother land on both sides of the family. I can tell you this I definitely felt more at home in Israel. Amazing country with amazing people. I would love to go back once they stop blowing everything up ...lol

well... yeah! cohen is descent from aaron, so l'chaim!

you are practically royalty.

home is great! ...it feels right, there. (that will probably never change).

i was there last april and it's never more exciting than to know where you come from.

I would totally reap this - just conveniently forget to tell them that your mother wasn't Jewish, and have them feed you grapes and shit. :worship:

You think I haven't :)

I worked for an AT&T distributor back when I was in college and the owners of the company happed to be unbelievably hardcore when it came to their religion. So none of the Jewish members of the company worked on Fri or Sat.

So I was working for the company for about 3 weeks as a salesman and they come into the store one day are are looking through the records and sales and shit. All the sudden one of the owners comes scrambling out of the back and grabs me he says "You should not be here!" ... Im like WTF?

So they take me back to the corporate office and sit me down. They start saying how bad they feel, that they are so sorry that I was put in such a position. Im like WTF ... So after about 30 minutes they turn to me and say, Jason, you are a COHEN and of course thats like being a part of our family. We want to give you a store of your own to run and make you a manager.

Im just sitting there going OK .....lol

So being half jewish has its perks sometimes. Weekends off, larger salary, and the bosses never questioning anything you do.

The company even had the local Rabbi come to all of the stores and collect donations weekly. Except for my store cause it wold be an insult to me. It was really fucking weird but totally capitalized on it ....lol

Dammit, I don't get anything you guys are saying about your last names. Please enlighten me!

Jarkko, at least the stuff I've seen is really fucking good. Not SSL good but they obviously only showed AVID stuff in they videos so I guess we'll have to go there in person to find out the exact details. ;)

As far as joining a church in order to use their awesome recording gear goes: Good luck trying to explain why you are recording the next black/death metal heroes. :D

That's the sort of shit that breeds racism, however nice it may be on your end.

I also find it weird that western Jews actually feel connected to Israel,
especially the non religious ones?!

you think it's weird that people feel connected to thousands of years of their history?

the connection takes place when you visit the land that your oldest known ancestor is still burried... a peice of you is burried in this soil that is thousdands of years old.

not to mention hundreds of family members that make you feel like you were born and raised there.

not all jews are the same... but a lot of them are alike in ways of hospitality.

i have never felt so welcomed and loved. it is an experience to behold.

many of my jewish friends who are not very religious have come back from the land with a sense of restoration in faith.

Nope, but a lot of Jews that I have known that visit Israel actually feel they are Israeli, even if they have no middle eastern heritage at all.

that's not strange at all... they are indeed israelite (childeren of israel). a lay member of the jewish faith, different to the orders of levites.

it sounds like mumbo-jumbo... but it truly does mean something to a member of the jewish faith, even though they may not practice.

at times i struggle with my faith but i remember that i am here because of how much they have endured... then i realize my struggle pales in comparison.

I did a "low budget" church install a few months ago.. this was a decently sized church in a poor neighborhood and they still spent well in excess of $40,000 on the audio gear. EV TOUR-X PA + amps, complete wireless mic setup, choir mics, Yamaha M7CL digital console.

As far as it being necessary for a church to have a Midas console or a Profile, or whatever, and a $250,000 line array system, it's definitely not.. but big extravagant churches have big extravagant budgets to blow. They could probably get away with spending 1/10th on audio and still have a reasonable, clear, system that the congregation can hear.

I am definitely not saying THAT. I just could feel the family history. When you go to the village that your great great great great grandparents founded you cant help but feel at home. Dont get me wrong the same thing happened when I went to Trapani in Italy, but not to the extent of when I was in Israel.

As for "breeding racism". I call Bullshit on that one, all of the religious sects, and all of the cultures of the world help their own kind first.......

Let me ask you a question, theres 2 guys you know. One is from America and one is from your home town. They are both applying for the same job and they both have the exact same qualifications. Who are you going to give the job to?

Ya thought so ;)

Helping your own people / friends / family / descendants doesn't breed racism. Comments like yours do.

No.

If you got promoted because you were Jewish, if the christian dude also applying for the job find out about it, what's he gonna think "that's fair enough the boss is Jewish" ?

I'm not saying, it's wrong *necessarily. In that situation you talked about, you may have had a better working relationship with the dudes in question because you have something in common with them. People are still going to feel sore about it though.

home... that's what i was sayin' too.

as far as racism... i think that the jews had it pretty bad from the get-go!

all the jews in the world couldn't re-breed the amount of racism that was cast on them. (but we'll do the best we can).

i kid!

what you are saying is nepotism ...not racism.

judaism is not a race dood. (well, legally it is).

I just cant get behind that at all tbh. Its the way of the world. If people take that to heart and get all but hurt then they shouldn't be a part of the human race. Life isnt fair, we all know this. People need to get over it. I have been on the bad side of many choices like this and you dont see me running around calling african americans my pals, puertoricans spicks, mexicans wet backs, and blondes fucking retards .... seriously people just need to get on with life and smile.

(FYI yes I realized I have used ALL of those terms at some point on this forum, but they were used in jest and never meant in any slanderous way. Except for when I talk to Carlos, hes still an ugly half brown mother fucker.)

I hoped it wouldn't come to this, but you guys asked for it:

At Tim: technicalities dude...technicalities

At gg, you know people do though

Lol at the penis limb, I forgot it was teh int3rwbs for a second

From the wiki article on "Megachurch":

In the United States: "According to that data, approximately 50 churches on the list have attendance ranging from 10,000 to 47,000"

A weekly attendance of that and a really big collection plate = the ability to have as many consoles as they want. Thankfully I can talk to my God from my couch and he never asks me for money.
