What's the link to your songs? When you posted it originally It slipped my mind to take it out of my temporary folder and into one that DOESN'T delete itself after a while, so I lost both your songs. They're fucking awesome and I'd like to download them again.

Actually theres no links to my songs at the moment
My 10MB of webspace isnt enough hold more than one song at once so songs dont stay up for long until i need my space back!
Ill upload one of the songs for you now if you wish, and in a few days ill upload the other song.

I got them. Thanks.

You know. Your work is really good. You really should consider making an album someday.

As one who wishes to create music in the future I'm curious. What is some of the process of making music like that? I know very little about it so I'm not sure how big of a question I'm asking.

thanks! :)

i am making an album from it, keep up with the news!!!
itll be recorded after i record for Unthroned though, so itll probably be midway through next year before i get to do it. I have about 45 minutes of music written for it at the moment, as well as many other ideas that will come together eventually, all up i plan for about 65 minutes of music on the final thing.

The process? Well heres an example. but it is possible to do these in any order at all.
1. random jamming, a lot of the time when im playing guitar im just making stuff up, for no real purpose, im not trying to write anything im just playing and humming along and exploring ideas and such.
2. stumble across a riff that sounds cool, begin writing a song based around that riff.
3. repeat steps 1 and 2, except now with purpose and coninutalyl refering back to the original riff
4. thought about the song, how long it should be, what i want to achieve (is it more like a story? a comment? an observation? etc) and.
5. all the previous stuff is repeated until the song is basically written in 'one guitar' form, usually with ideas of second guitar parts floating in my head but nothing written.
6. the 'make interesting' stage, where i go through and think about all those things (time sigs, harmonisations, chords, etc) that i might change to better achieve what im trying to do. Sometimes a 4/4 riff will turn into a 7/8 riff because the riff is better suited.
7. the recording process, all the drums are written and a click track put down for the song structure.
8. record basic rhythm guitars
9. now for second gutiar parts, usually this involves a lot of jamming over the already recorded tracks until i have the parts im looking for, same goes for third guitar parts and solos.
10. bass is written and added, usually ive got a good idea of what the bass needs to do by this stage and doesnt take long to write and record.
11. the song is then fixed and edited, drum beats are improved to suit the now recorded gutiar parts. extra guitar noises and stuff are added to improve the flow or feeling of a part.
12. the end.

thats the basic process for one of my proper songs, the smaller parts like the ones you just downloaded are a fairly different process. Ive just done this quickly so i may have missed out some really important steps, but is that what you were looking for?

oh and that whole process is quite a long process, it isnt rushed at all, generally takes about a month to get through that stuff.

dude i really like the sound of the calm riff....i think that you should try to develop that into a classical guitar sounding riff,,,,with maybe two other guitars,,,finger picking really fast,,,,and then that on top......i think that would really sound good

thanks:)

but i think Calm is perfect how it is. More than one guitar would be completely innapropriate for what i want to achieve, besides, everything else i do is layered with at least 3 guitars. Calm is supposed to be minimal.

YaYoGakk, I just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoy your music, but I saw your picture and what I don’t understand is how someone who’s ass I could kick so easily can make such splendid music. ;)

But yes i am small and very young looking and whatever. its sucky. I tend to use my music to make up for such things.

I remember you talking about Think, about the piano bits over the guitar. What did you use to record them?

I'm also just about to download Calm.

Another thing I forgot to mention - the site that I use for my songs offers unlimited space, you should look into it.

Although it's a British site, I'm sure you can set your location to Australia and stuff... it's a pretty good site.

They are just midi, written in a program called 'Guitar Pro' so its actually written in tab instead of standard notation, coz i know tab better. And then exported to Cubase and converted into a wav file with that. Add some audio reverb effects and a bit of EQing to the wav through cooledit and thats that.

Hm, doesnt seem to have an australian version. Also i worry about sites like that, theres always hidden things you agree with that say they can do whatever they like with the songs and stuff like that, im happy just to have my songs uneasily available until i actually get an album recorded.
