metal archives classifys Manowar as just "heavy metal" and I'd have to agree with them. They INFLUENCED power metal, but aren't powermetal themselves. Like Maiden, Priest, and Sabbath.

I remember reading a Kai Hansen interview, with a stat from the writer that blew me away. This was way back in 96-97?? anyway, it said that as of that date, albums featuring Kai Hansen (Helloween, Gamma Ray, and a couple side projects) had already sold over 6 million units worldwide. Add another 8 years of catalog sales and recent releases on top, and you have a very impressive career for anyone, let alone someone in that particular genre, what with no MTV, major radio, etc...
