So I've been listening to Emperor "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" and at approx. 2min in the song "Ensorcelled by Khaos", the mood changes completely and it just gets me in a weird state, I freaking love that part of the song, and the song overrall.


What are your favorite moments in metal, music wise?

Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Makes me..,..... something. A lot of it. Best album ever.

Ulver - Bergtatt: Kapitel; I roughly 6 minutes in.
Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss: Det Som En Gang Var; the whole thing in general, but especially where the high riff kicks in around 7:55
Katatonia - Brave Murder Day: Brave; the whole album in general, but this entire song in general.
In The Woods - HEart of the Ages: Yearning the Seeds of a New Dimension; RIGHT where the screaming starts. GOD DAMN

oh, and Agalloch's "The Wilderness" and "This Old Cabin" from their demo, the whole thing

yeah, I'm not being too helpful.

Opening riff to Kyuss - Gardenia. Gets me going like nobody's biness.

Hammers of Misfortune - The August Engine part 2, the middle section with the crazy guitar solo is one of my all time favorite musical moments, it's so amazing it hurts.

Pantera - Great Southern Trendkill, the entire guitar solo laden outro. Simply mindblowing in every sort of way. I love that album but that 2 minute section right there trumps the rest of it, and possibly their entire discography.

Katatonia - Brave, when the vocals first come in, that first line is so fucking powerful nearly I cry like the ground up little girls that album is made from.

Tool - The Grudge, the entire outro section, first time I heard it I went blind for about 10 seconds. No seriously, I did. I keep saying that but really, I did. Pretty cool.

Slayer - Dead Skin Mask, every time the main riff comes in, I poop myself. Why? BEST. RIFF. EVAR.

I could go on and on with this for awhile.

Oh man, I have a ton of these moments, but as usual reading the thread has caused them to exit my mind.

One I remember is Mercyful Fate-Nightmare about the 3:2o mark to about 4 min. that whole passage sounds great going in, during, and coming out.

All of Hours That Remain by Mercenary.
Twilight Of The Gods by Helloween.
Bass line in Black Wind Fire and Steel by Manowar. Its just cool.
First time I heard Food For The Gods by Inflames.
The Whoa Ohhhh part In Killing Floor by Bruce Dickenson with the strings in the back ground.
If youve heard it you know.
The chorus of Nevermores Born, Van Williams and Jeff Loomis combine to make a killer chorus part.
Beginning part of 1349's I Am Abomination before the vocals and blastbeats come in. Very powerfull.
Tears Of The Mandrake by Edguy, the chorus rocks.
The riff in Threatening Skies by Obituary. Simple punky but catchy as hell.
The drumming in From the Otherside by King Daimond, I just like the rythmn.
Intro riff to Needlefest by Soilwork.
Opening riff of Fire Alive by The Haunted. Good heavy groovy riff.
Opening drum roll of Funeral In Carpathia done by Nicholas Barker of CoF. Actually I like the riffs as well.
The ending riff of Pisschrist by Fear Factory.
The whole intro of Victorious March by Amon Amarth. At 58 seconds when the double bass rolls kick in is fucking killer.

[Necromunchkin]

Morbid Angel "Chapel of Ghouls" the keyboard section. Eerie moment and foreshadowing of elements of black metal to come later.

Judas Priest "Saints In Hell" during the bridge towards the end when you just have the dark guitar and Halford screaming "We going down... into the fire"

Emperor "I Am The Black Wizards" the opening. Mesmerizing guitar line.

Carcass "Reek of Putrefaction" when the ominous sludge turns into grind, it just takes off with such intensity.

Mercyful Fate "The Oath" that main riff. One of the greatest of all time.
