Obviously they took a totally new approach with this album... One approach that fails to make them (90%.. 10% is still there) still COB to me. That is, Janne's keyboards, now using a small seemingly limited amount of synth leads than in the past, really is the only element that bonds the new stuff with their past, in my opinion. That and the fact that it seems that many of their solos, ranging from a mere 8 seconds, to one triple solo by Roope, janne, and then Alexi, take so many elements from their older stuff.. I'm sorry for not remembering the names of the songs because I was too dissapointed to truly grasp what I was hearing, but for all of you who should know, that song with the longest set of solos that I just mentioned, (Roope, then janne, then Alexi) has elements from so much of their older shit, Roope from Sinergy, Janne's is new, but alexi takes parts from Bodom after Midnight and Bodom Beach Terror and throws it together with speed to make it sound supposedly new and exciting... Hmm... When I noticed things like this throughout all the new songs I've heard like, In Your Face, Are you Dead Yet, If you Want peace than prepare for War, Living Dead Beat, Oops I did it Again (funny..), and Bastards of Bodom.. The only songs I like that they've recently written (asides from sinppits of the aforementioned songs were Trashed Lost and Strungout and a shitty recording of Knuckleduster.. And does anyone realize that almost every solo in the new songs start like it did when Roope's starts in Knuckleduster? *sighs* I've even hear small metalcore riffs scattered throughout the song, and breakdownish riffs that.. Play during most of the solos! There are some awesome shreds going down but I can hardly hear them due to Roope playing some heavy fast chord progression.. The old melody/solo-driven ways of the old band has been replaced with supposedly catchy Hard metalcore riffs interlaced with a few melodic bits... The days of Alexander playing simple chord patterns along to a standout amazing solo seem to be dead... And Alexi's vocals.. People keep saying their better, but it seems I can hardly make them out over guitars and drums.. It's all so blended together it seems like just noise.. Where are the standout catchy, if not neccessarily good lyrics like in hate me!, Towards Dead End, Every Time I Die, You're Better off Dead, etc..
*sighs* I honestly truly hope that Alexi is just doing thsi to expand their influence into America, then allowing them to seize control over America's youth, and then slip naturally back into their somewhat older style which will be eaten up regardless in Amerca due to our dull witted fans. That'd be awesome.. Totally possible too. This grabs their attention, and once fans start listening to FTR, HB, Hate Crew, etc, then they will, being the now tr00 fans that they are, will start loving all of it.. Not to mention that so many elements of the new solos are strewn throughout old songs.. except this time they will get about a 45 second solo duel.. More is better in America. So yea.....
I know, huge rant, don't bother to read it haha.. Just needed to throw an opinion out there. I still love the band, I'm not a hater.. And actualyl I can't wait to see them headline shows for once. I saw them headline in Farmingdale, NY last time around and seeing them play Deadnight and KTS was fucking kick ass... So yea.. Aside from all the new shitty 13-16 year old fans (which should be easily knocked out of the way), everything should be good.. I hope..
