Your opinions on the different orchestral programs?

Just to make this short and sweet, go with Cinematic Strings. In my opinion, the most realistic sounds for the price. They'll also hook you up with a free copy of Monster Staccatos which has VERY powerful and high quality staccato strikes. Symphobia is cool but it's truly a one trick pony. I've used it on a lot of my production music for TV shows/commercials but it doesn't have the versatility of EWQL or CS. EWQL is also good (and pretty much the standard) but I think Cinematic Strings wins this one (given it's size, support, and price).

I have this one too and it's really nice, and works in Kontakt.

I think that to get the best orchestral sound you have to use the best elements of a couple of libraries.

For strings, audio bro LA strings http://www.audiobro.com/
For brass, Project Sam Orchestral Brass Classic http://www.projectsam.com/Products/Boxed-Products/1354
For Woodwinds, Westgate http://www.westgatestudios.com/home.htm

This is based on what a professional composer doing music for videogames told me.

For choirs I don't really know, I use a combination of EWSC and Omnisphere, but I'm still not yet satisfied. The new stuff from Tonehammer seems amazing though : http://www.tonehammer.com/?p=5953 .

I can definitely recommend Orchestral Brass Classic, probably the best I've heard from any library. LA Scoring String and Hollywood Strings are definitely at the top but for the price and size of it, I just can't recommend it to the masses. My strings/brass setup is Cinematic Strings, Monster Staccatos, Orchestral Brass Classic, and Mr. Sax A. Pretty much covers everything I need and if I need to strengthen the presence of some of those instruments, I'll just layer/blend it with some instruments from Reason 4.

have you ever watched Lord of the G String? haha

The symphobia stuff sound sweet from what i checked out. Im just wondering about the whole Kontact thing vs something like EWQL with it's own software. Any thoughts?

VSL stuff takes a big, steamy dump on everything else. If you go nuts and get a lot of their libraries, it can get extraordinarily expensive, but you get what you pay for.
