I've never actually listened to that album. I know at the time it was considered a failure. However, it seems based on what I've seen on forums and some recent reviews I've read that opinion of that album is changing to the more positive end of the spectrum.

It's seriously underrated. You should give it a listen.

Definitely their darkest album.

Black Sabbath:
Dead Can Dance:

1. Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
2. Spleen and Ideal
3. Dead Can Dance
4. The Serpent's Egg
5. Into the Labryinth

Not too far off from mine.

1. Within the Realm of a Dying Sun
2. Spleen and Ideal
3. Serpents Egg
4. Aion
5. Into the Labyrinth

Wow, this is a good topic!
Rush:
Moving Pictures
Grace Under Pressure*
Vapor Trails
S/T
Permanent Waves

First of all, how in the fuck are s/t and Vapor Trails two of your favorite Rush albums?

Second of all, this is about as tough as it gets.

1. Grace Under Pressure
2. Hemispheres
3. 2112
4. Moving Pictures
5. A Farewell to Kings

Swans:

1. Soundtracks for the Blind
2. The Seer
3. Children of God
4. Young God
5. White Light From the Mouth of Infinity

Swans might be the toughest. I don't think they've ever released a record that is any lower than a 8/10. The most consistent band (in quality, not style) ever.

Metallica:

1. ...and Justice for All
2. Kill Em All
3. Ride the Lightning
4. Master of Puppets
5. Black Album (basically by default)

I actually went back and listened to all five of these because I hadn't listened to some of them in years. I know it's a dead horse, but the drop off from Justice to The Black Album in just about every respect (lyrics, vocals, musicianship, songwriting) is just unreal. I can't even imagine how devastated I would have been if I was a fan in 91.

Yea, it's a huuuge drop off ... but hearing Load in 96 was much more devastating.

Indeed, then followed by Reload. What were they thinking? Did they not hear any of us saying Load sucked?

Death Magnetic was a decent attempt to get back to the good stuff. I'd throw it at #6 on my list if there was room. Garage Inc tops it though for being actual quality songs, just made heavier. Black would be #7 I guess.

Public castration is a good idea is their best.

I feel like I'm the only person who finds this to easily be their worst album. It isn't bad in any way, but is just easily their weakest. Far too vocal-centric which considering Nemtheanga is something I would have expected to be a good thing, but it just doesn't have the same "journey" like feel to it.
