Zomba has dropped Opeth

From Opeth.com :
Music for nations have now officially closed their doors. Opeth have luckily been dropped from BMG/Zomba and is looking through new offers at the moment.

Guess I'm not the only one who's happy about Opeth not being signed with a major record company... Anyway, good luck in finding a new record deal!

It'd suck if MFN had kept publishing rights when they closed down, as some labels are wont to do. Then Opeth wouldn't be able to release anything until either MFN opened up again or their contract expired...

Here's hoping they get signed by a decent label. As long as they're allowed to keep making the music they want and that they're capable of continuing to tour, I care not where they end up. I'd like to see Warner pick them up, of all the majors, as they have Porcupine Tree and Dream Theater on their books. Maybe Steven Wilson could go to bat for them.

However, if they wind up on InsideOut, I hope they don't get lumped with the cheesy album covers that seem to permeate that label. :)

I think they are most likely to end up on Lava (part of the Atlantic family) for two reasons;

1) Porcupine Tree are on Lava.

2) They are big in the metal community and larger labels are watching (eg Sony signing Cradle), but don't necersarily want them on their primary label in case it goes flat, so sign them to some of their smaller labels, where they win whatever.

I want re-releases of the first albums without those stupid rehearsal recordings as bonus tracks....

I am SO glad I'm not the only one who hated those. Those tracks absolutely ruin the atmosphere at the end of the albums, especially on Morningrise. I don't mind the 2 tracks on MAYH so much, though--although "Circle of the Tyrant" is mediocre, I actually think "Remember Tomorrow" is pretty cool.

But the others...sorry, the sound quality was terrible, and I have created better things (in sound quality terms) with a cheap guitar and a cheap piece of recording software. I'm not sure what Candlelight was thinking, putting those on there. That's the kind of stuff that really ought to be on Kazaa if anywhere, not on a serious CD.
