If I've understood the question correctly, then those "squeaks" are pretty much exclusive to acoustic guitars, which is why they're not on the live version which is electric only.

Holy shit!..the first four songs of that set list would reduce a small country to rubble I think...major heaviosity...if that's a word!.

Met them all in London twice a few weeks ago..all very nice, and to counter one of the posts above, I found Fred to be very friendly..maybe 'cos we talked about guitars!..but he was cool and had some interesting things to say about his love of Django and gypsy/jazz style music.

Well, I'm 43 and have loved Opeth for quite a while now...I did notice at the recent London gig that there was a real mixture of age groups, male/female, black/white/asian...etc...something for everyone in Opeth I think!

I'll second "Wreath"..I like the recorded version, but live was just brutal...UTWM and TNATSW are also way better to my ears. Oh, and Lotus Eater works incredibly well live with the three of them singing..

^^^ Indeed. The performance of TLE in London was pretty much perfect. It must be great having two other guys who can sing..takes some pressure off Mike...it also helped with Godheads Lament, adding a lot of depth to the clean vocal parts.

Very nice read, thanks for posting!...good to see Mike give Mendez the credit for coming up with the brilliant bass parts that for me, differentiate Opeth from so many other metal type bands.

I don't dispute your point, although I will say that Opeth in London a few weeks ago were simply brilliant. Cynic were good, but Opeth ruled..and I think most people who were there might agree. With regards to the set list, I've been thinking about this and I think part of the problem is...

At the recent London gig, "Godheads Lament" absolutely crushed. Axe nailed it, and the vocals were very strong throughout. Best version I've personally heard.
