As I've commented on this numerous of times BWP is my favorite and I think they're a band that just gets better as time goes by. They started out good with "Orchid" and "ended" superb with BWP. Therefor my favorite list of their records go like this:
1: BWP
2: MAYH (Haven't heard SL yet - vinylfreak!)
3: Morningrise
4: Orchid

As I also said earlier I think the first two and especially "Orchid" sounds compiled. "I have this riff here and also this riff and this. Let's put them together with the 17 other riffs I already have and maybe that way we can make a song that's 10-15 minuttes long"! The two first records also have a lot of "space" during some of the songs. Like "Black rose immortal" has a lot of that empty space, where they changes riffs.

Well, my first Opeth album was BWP (I don't know them for too long yet), but I think I prefer Still Life in a way - it feels more versatile.... I still need MAYH and Morningrise, but I think Still Life is the best one I know yet, even though I love the other two albums as well. But BWP is better for letting off stream

Yeah, you're right! No offense to anyone, but I'm getting a little tired of all these polls; "Which is the best Opeth album", "Who is your favorite Opeth member", "How many times have you heard "Black rose Immortal"" and so on. It might be alright the first couple of times, but then it just gets tiresome. Basically a poll like this is useless. Most people vote for "Morningrise" as the best record, but that doesn't change my favoritism of BWP as the best record they've made.
As I said, I don't want to attack anyone, but I'm getting a little tired of going to this page and seing nothing but stupid polls and threads like "Have you heard Mikael pronounces the words wrong" and so on. I don't even care for reading subjects like that.

1. My Arms/ Your Hearse - Dark and evil sounding/great story.
2. Still Life - Well written story and guitar parts.
3. Blackwater Park - Great production and alot of killer tracks.
4. Orchid - Well written lyrics, and awesome guitar work.
5. Morningrise - Good, but not as good as Orchid.

Blackwater Park is by far the best, with Orchid in second, in my opinion.

I think MAYH is the most underrated opeth album. Come on people is the sweet spot, not too overused, not too long nor too short, coherent and clear without wasting time. Is the perfect Opeth experience imho.

As I (and others) have said numerous of times; taste is different. There's no right and wrong when it comes to taste. As simple as that!

Orchid, MAYH and BWP. And Still Life...and Morningrise. j/k

ORCHID is so very pleasing to me. BWP is killer. So I'd pick the two of them. OH WAIT. Nah, I pick EQUALLY: Orchid and MAYH.

You're 100% right, that's what it all comes down to, but if we'd go into every discussion saying that, there wouldn't be much of a discussion left, would there? But then again, one can't argue taste, it's a vicious circle!

Anyway, Morningrise always wins in polls and it happens to be my fave as well...
