I just want to know what Opeth fans listen to. So I thought it was a good idea to list my top 5 bands, with my favourite album from them and my favourite song off that album, expecting some of you to do the same. I know this can be pretty hard, but I'm just giving an estimate. The order of the bands and the albums and tracks chosen would probably be different an hour from now, but I think this could be a great way to find out what our peers like.

1.- Opeth - Still Life - The Moor
2.- Porcupine Tree - In Absentia - Gravity Eyelids
3.- The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium - Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt
4.- Tool - Lateralus - Ticks & Leeches
5.- Evergrey - Recreation Day - As I Lie Here Bleeding

Hm.
Opeth
Katatonia
Dark Tranquility
Faith and the Muse
London After Midnight

Yeah, they're not all metal, but you didn't say top 5 metal bands.

Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn - Astronomy Domine
Opeth - Still Life - The Moor
Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons - A Change of Seasons
Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction - Symphony of Destruction
Metallica - Ride the Lightning - Creeping Death

Anathema - Eternity - Angelica
Neurosis - A Sun that Never Sets - The Tide
Antimatter - Lights Out - In Stone
The Gathering - Souvenirs - Broken Glass
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven - Sleep

.... And Opeth didn't make the list this time :guh: Oh well, five is not a lot, and they probably will come back around when I get back to a Opeth listening spree :p

Yeah, what's Evergrey? I have to say I've never heard of them.
They ARE metal. Some people say it's "progressive obscure metal" It doesn't really sound progressive to me, but they are amazing!

Are they something I'd be able to find in most record stores, or is are they a band that's going to have to go on my "obscure, very very hard to find" list?

Half of their catalog is easy to come by, on Inside out records. The first half is hard to find, so I don't even own it (heard it though, it's great!) It will be re-released by inside out in the year, so it should become easy to find soon. The second half is the best one, anyways!

Cool, I'll try to check them out.

Opeth - Blackwater Park - Blackwater Park
Decapitated - Winds of Creation - Winds of Creation
Vital Remains - Dechristianize - Dechristianize
Evergrey - Recreation Day - The Great Deceiver
Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon - Eradication Instincts Defined

Bonus:

Lamb of God - As the Palaces Burn - Ruin
Nevermore - Dead Heart In a Dead World - River Dragon Has Come

1) Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale is probably one of the most incredible albums I have ever heard.

2) Opeth - The current reigning melodic metal supergods. Who doesn't like them? Attention whores, thats who.

3) Nightingale - I fucking worship Swano. 'Nuff said.

4) Sonata Arctica - When I'm in the mood for something Children of Bodom-esque, but without all the anger.

5) Children of Bodom - Sure, they may be mostly "showoff metal", but damn they can play a tune.

And Funeral - was it really necessary to flame Ariane like that?

Opeth - Still Life - White Cluster/Godhead's Lament
Opeth - Blackwater Park - The Leper Affinity/Blackwater Park
Ulver - Bergtatt - Capitel V: Bergtatt - ind i Fjeldkamrene
Ulver - Vargnatt/Kveldssanger - Trollskogen/Ulvsblakk
Empyrium - Weiland - Kapitel II: Waldpoesie
Empyrium - Songs of Moors & Misty Fields - The Blue Mists of Night
Andrés Segovia - The Art of Segovia - Danza de las Hechas (Composed by Joaquín Rodrigo)
Agalloch - The Mantle - In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion/I Am the Wooden Doors

At the moment:

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here - Wish You Were Here
Opeth - Orchid - The Apostle in Triumph
Agalloch - The Mantle - In the Shadow of our Pale Companion
Astriaal - Renascent Misanthropy - Glories of the Nightsky
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans - Black God

I heavily reccomend Astriaal to everyone here... they're aussie black metal with a slight melodic tendency... they've been described as 'the Opeth of black metal' which i think is... fairly close to the mark.

Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse
My Dying Bride - The Dreadful Hours
Dimmu Borgir - Death Cult Armageddon
Saviour Machine - Saviour Machine I & Legend Part II
Finntroll (heehee) - Jatkens Tid

Honourable mentions - Vintersorg, Loreena McKennitt, Iron Maiden, Moonspell, Evergrey, and Arch Enemy.

In no order:

Opeth - MAYH - April Ethereal + When (in a row)
Symphony X - The Divine Wings of Tragedy - The album as a whole
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans - Your River
Anathema - Eternity - Angelica
Dream Theatre - Scenes from a Memory - Home

Well, this was very difficult... I just chose songs nearly at random. The bands and the CDs are the ones, except for Opeth. I chose MAYH because I listened to it yesterday...

I guess there was a similar topic "5 favourite bands (bored at work here)", or sth;), but anyway:

Opeth - BWP- The Drapery Falls
Bloodbath - Breeding Death - Breeding Death
Emperor - Prometheus - In The Wordless Chamber
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Californication - Otherside
Illdisposed - Sumbit - The Hidden Ache

Shit, that was hard (It took me 10 minuetes;)
Except for Opeth and Bloodbath, I probably would give you a different list tomorrow;)

Opeth - Orchid - Forest of October

Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse - I Am The Black Wizards
Symphony X - V: The New mythology Suite - Rediscovery (Pts 1 + 2)
Dream Theater - Awake - Scarred
Cynic - Focus - How Could I
