Does Amorphis have a greatest hits album?

I think my favorite thing about this festival is that I get to become familiar with new bands that I end up loving every year. (Not All) I have yet to be able to make it all the way down to Atlanta for 3 days but I try like hell every year to make it and something always thwarts my plans. Either way I love this festival because I discover new bands. At first I only liked power metal. Rhapsody, SA, Strato stuff like that. And now the only cd that I even keep in my car is Pathosray. (Which will be the main reason I come this year if I can, because 1. I don't know if they will ever play over here again and 2. Because it is their debut cd and maybe never again will I get to here all the songs I love from just one of their albums...Its like a special performance. I don't have the time or the energy to keep up with the scene like I assume most who post on here do or search for new music or afford to buy music on a whim just to give it a chance. So I come here where Glenn and all of you other members never seem to let me down so for that I thank you and I hope that this year I can meet some of you in person.

Actually I think I like The Closing Chronicles better than any of them... maybe... possibly... but definitely Tales over Elegy.

To be honest, I dont understand how Amorphis fits into the whole scenario.
Glenn, I see your whole point about going beyond what is expected and trying to target new potential ProgPower devotees...but it seems like you're trying to shove a square peg into a round hole with these guys.
I have to admit I was hoping for another heavy prog/power hitter...after all the speculation and discussion, to hear that it's Amorphis is a bit...ehhhhh, anticlimatic, I suppose.
Maybe they'll blow me away live...
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but the vocals totally turn me off.
Nothing prog/power about cookie monster.
Oh well.
You have pulled off some incredible shit, and I have no doubt you will outdo yourself again.
Besides, Jon Oliva is back on the roster...and I love that man dearly.

I kinda see what ur sayin with the whole anticlimatic thing. But Glenn's a wise man, and where he sees potential in his roster, he'll shoot for it. I like amorphis, i really do, but i was hoping for like Helloween or Blind Guardian. I'm glad he chose amorhips though, because this really makes it diverse, and not so much of a linear ride this year. Thanks for sharing you opinion to us all though, you did it in a really fashionable manner.

I'm not sure why the growling vocals are turning so many people off of Amorphis. They growl in like 1/3 of their songs. In addition, they're some of the most tastefully done growls ever. Some songs the guitars are higher in the mix than the growls, making them more like atmospheric background than anything.

Threshold had some growling on their latest disc. Don't see many Threshold haters on these forums. It's because it was tastefully done. Same story here, just done more often.

I'm not really trying to change any minds on the topic of growling. I just think it's unfair to label Amorphis as a "cookie monster" band. Just as their name implies, they're much too variable to be labeled and tossed aside.

I don't think it makes much sense to compare the two bands based on Threshold growling 14 words during an 18 year career.

My point was that those 14 words were so tastefully done that no one really complained. I think most of Amorphis's best songs fall into that category. The bands are incomparable, the skill and good taste aren't.

God damnit people. Listen to the facking albums. Stop trying to find good reviews and write reviews of CDs, just realize that there's growls and LISTEN.

And my point was that the reason there were no "Threshold haters" is that they are a definitive band in the progressive metal genre, whereas Amorphis have roots as a death metal band. That is a much more likely cause for controversy than whether the band has ever used growls as far as I'm concerned.

Point taken, but Amorphis has moved far away from that genre. The band is completely different beast now. I'll be surprised if we hear more than 2 or 3 songs with growling. The rest will be the laid back, dark metal that the band is steadily embracing. We'll get the classic songs with that the band has to perform (Against Widows, My Kantele which is barely growled, and maybe The Castaway). After that, classic non-growled songs like Alone, Divinity, The Way. The first picks off the latest album is I of Crimson Blood and the title track: more songs without growling.

They may be rooted in death metal, but that's not who they are any more. I think everyone's overreacting, and these guys are going to rock the house. There will be fewer growling/extremely heavy songs during this set than a Mercenary set, by far.

They'll surely do more than two or three songs with growls .. so lets not give people false hope here. It will be about a 1/2 set of growls, and 1/2 set clean vocaled stuff. I hope they don't change their normal sets up because of the anti-growl crowd. That would piss me off some, although I like their non-growled tracks as well.

If you go over to Youtube you'll find that they are doing quite a few numbers with growls. I've seen live clips over there for several tracks from their last two discs that contain growls. The Smoke, Perkele (The God Of Fire), Towards and Against, Servent, The White Swan, and Leaves Scars.

Yeah, they always seem to do Black Winter Day .. it and My Kantele are staples. Drowned Maid .. probably not, but they always seem to do Sign From The Northside which is an old heavy track. Castaway might be a possibility.

It should be a set that is pretty representative of their whole catalog. There might be a disc or that's skipped, but fans new and old should find enough to be happy with. Even the non-growl lovers will find several tracks that contain no growls at all.

This year is going to be one of those years that people look back on when bands like Serenity,Riverside,Volbeat,are regularly touring or headlining.
I NEVER like the entire roster,but the fact of the matter is that the bands that I want to see and blow me away more than make up for ones I'm not that into.
Next time,don't post an appology,just avoid the forums and seclude yourself in a room and listen to Buffett until the show sells out like it does every year.

Firstly, I didn't label Amorphis as anything.
I was referring to the growling thing as being "cookie monster" and in my opinion, there simply is nothing prog/power about that style of vocals.
That is death metal, and while I have always been of the opinion that, hey, anyone remember when it was just fuckin' METAL and it all kicked ass, prog power is PROG POWER, not death, not black, not screamo emo thrash punk or anything else.
Thusly...we here at Prog_Muse Industries don't associate the cookie monster vocals with progressive or power metal.
That covers THAT.
As far as Amorphis only doing the growling in however many songs...it's just sad to me because the music rules.
I like it.
Why would I be any more interested in a band because they only fuck up 1/3 of their material with that vocal?
As I said, I will wait and see and maybe I'll be totally impressed and you all can gather round passing me condiments while I eat crow.

INTO ETERNITY has both prog and power elements, plus growlies. No one can tell me they're not a prog/power band. Lousy live because of horrible sound problems, but prog/power nonetheless.
