A new, sober, thread about single malt scotch whisky thread.

Casino Royale was everything right about big budget movies, really dug that one as well.

Quantum of Solace was pretty ehh, and this one lands somewhere betwixt them.

I'm doing something new with scotch these days. When I first started 10 years ago, I was an idiot and used ice cubes because I didn't know any better. Then I tried scotch and water (as in 1 part whisky to 3 parts water) and that was enjoyable, but this was all with 40% stuff that, so whilst decent enough, wasn't exactly fine swill.

Once I started to get into good stuff I've used a few drops of clean water per dram, and that has worked extremely well. However, this current season, I've found even the water has tended to get in the way of my enjoyment. Now I just drink it neat, and swirl small amounts around my mouth for a bit, in essence diluting it with my own saliva. I've been doing that with bourbon for years, and now it is making a more enjoyable scotch for me as well. For what it's worth I use rocks glasses for my whisky, I know snifters are more In Style these days, but I save those for tequila and cognac. Thoughts?

I suppose within a few years I'll just start eating the casks themselves, fuck liquid, I want to chew my scotch!

Oh yeah and Tully's absinthe advice went over greatly for my wife's birthday this past summer, we've really quite enjoyed that whole process. Ended up with proper glassware, nice spoons, European sugar cubes, and a bottle of Jade Nouvelle-Orléans. She's not much of a drinker so it's nice to get numb with her at least every once in awhile! So yeah, thanks n' stuff. :)

We have pretty awesome water here in Central Illinois. So I use a spoonful or two of some tap water. Really brings out the flavors.
It actually makes Glenlivet 12 taste good. I dont really like it neat. wierd shit

Hey douchbags. My brother and I are looking to get my dad a bottle of scotch for Xmas.
He isn't a big drinker. So we aren't sure what to get him. He likes bourbon. But we wanna go the scotch route. Any ideas?
Maybe Glenfiddich 15-18?

Krig- if he's more a bourbon drinker, I would go worn Glenlivit 15 year. Not overly pricey but people who don't drink a lot of scotch seem to enjoy it

Every Xmas, my wife's side of the family always does secret santa between us with a ~$75 budget. Every year, I write down a certain Single Malt. I am thinking of Talisker 18 for this year but am open to suggestions. Hit me.

As of right now, I am stocking Talisker Distiller's Edition, two bottles of Lagavulin 16, Ardbeg Uegedail, and Highland Park 12.

haha dude krig if your dad prefers bourbon over scotch, get him a nice bourbon! there are plenty of delicious fancy bourbons. a gift should be what the recipient likes, not what the giver thinks they should like, right?
