A Question For Mikael......

I am pretty sure that nothing is 100% deffinate that he has become a member of Opeth. But i can remember reading an interview with Mikael, Which he stated that he wanted Per to become a member of the band & that Per was making a final decision.

Moonlapse: You might wan't to consider adding this question & an answer to your FAQ.

???? yaaaay?

Does anyone think that more mellotron in Opeths songs would ruin it? Im not sayin that Per will be doin that, but i think the mellotron suited the Damnation style. but wouldnt fit Opeths other styles of playing

I've asked mikael, and it's not totally confirmed, but he said that every old soung sounds better now that they have rehearsed them and performed them with keyboards, and also the new songs contain keyboards. I met Per too and he said "well, if the orchestra wants me, I'm in".. I think he will be a permanent factor in Opeth.

Yeah I have, but I'm not adding it until we get a solid statement from a trustworthy source.

Here is a source I have retrieved for you.

TP: It seems to me that Opeth have reached the limits! From standard black/death metal to almost psychedelic rock? What's the next step? Where are you going to go from here?

MÅ: We're not going to play jazz or soul, that's for sure hahah! Ok, I think fantasy brings inspiration and this comes to innovating music. That's what we want to do. Write some interesting, clever riffs, songs, make the listener want to hear them again and again. There're going to be some musical changes though. We're going to hire Per (e.n. I think) as a permanent 5th member. He's been our session keyboard player for 2 years and I think he fits to Opeth, he's an excellent musician, he knows all the songs and he can write music! I'm sure he'll bring fresh ideas and add something extra to Opeth. I'm looking forward to working with him.

Nice. One of many in which Mike has talked about per becoming a permanent factor in the quartet. Even though it's not an 'official statement' so to speak, I think we can assume with that that Per will indeed be a permanent member. I'll throw that up on the FAQ. Cheers keegan.

Im still undecided on whether or not a keyboard would fit into Opeths typical heavy riffs, but id love to hear what Per could do with the softer riffs (no more Mellotron though! Im all mellotron-ed out!), id say itd go quite nice with it, what do you all think?

if a keyboard can fit in Emperor, Children Of Bodom or Dragonlord, i think it can find some niche for itself in Opeth, however miniscule.
