Abbath thinks the next Immortal will be a comeback to roots.

Demilich is right, I'm a Ulver fanboy, and I never listen to Nattens...

Same here, albeit slightly amended. Because of the radical stylistic differences on the first three, I've never been able to accept them as a unified work. On the same token, the only Immortal releases that have really done anything for me are ATHOW and Sons Of Northern Darkness...

While we're on the Ulver topic:

people who call the first 3 a "black metal trilogy" are really kind of gay AND lying... i've heard people try to call Kveldssanger 'an extension of black metal aesthetic into acoustic form' or some shit but seriously? just fuck off and die already!

Pure Holocaust
Blizzard Beasts
At the Heart of Winter
Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism
Battle in the North
Sons of Northern Darkness
Damned in Black

FYI, Nattens Madrigal is just so blah. I've tried so many times. I can just picture Trickster Gay or whatever that pretentious fag calls himself these days laughing in the studio, twiddling with the knobs "yeah, do we sound like ildjarn yet even though we're in an expensive studio?"

Never heard Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism Neil? It's definitely a solid release.

I think I did a download-listen-delete on that one. And actually I'm still in a weeding-out process on all their other pre-ATHOW albums. I probably only need one of the three, and 'Pure Holocaust' probably makes the most sense for me to hang onto. A "solid" release just ain't worth my time anymore!

The title track alone on "Damned In Black" leapfrogs it well over that release.

I think that track leaps it over about 80% of all albums ever released.

Well then the band themselves are gay liars (which very well may be true!) Although I guess they didn't call it a 'black metal' trilogy. The official name is 'The Trilogie - Three Journeyes through the Norwegian Netherworlde'. Which probably makes more sense. As to whether they knew they were making a trilogy from the start, or if Century Media just convinced 'em to apply that label after the fact, who knows?

Neil

1. Pure Holocaust (a true classic)
2. At The Heart Of Winter (an epic masterpiece)
3. Damned In Black (all the bashing this album has received gets on my tits; this is a record filled to the brim with great black & roll-ish riffs)
4. Battles In The North (some really excellent songs on this one, but I gotta admit that I find it a bit overrated. It's hard to make out some of the riffs, and the drumming is pretty meh).
5. Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism (pretty good, used to be a bigger fan of it back in the day, though)
....
....
....
.....
6. Blizzard Beasts and Sons Of Northern Darkness (I haven't given the former much time due to being put off by the pretty shitty production; the latter bore me to tears, save for the title track)

Damned in Black is terrible, well, as terrible as Immortal gets.

Blizzard Beasts is awesome! Mountains of Might people.

Production twits make me laugh

I personally think the album is better than its reputation. The title track, Within the Dark Mind, In My Kingdom Cold & the epic final track Far Beyond the North Waves are well worth the price of admission.

Jason

I really don't know why I don't like it - possibly because of the fact that most of it is mid-paced. The songs just don't move me in any way, save for the odd riff here and there.

Blizzard Beasts is awesome! Mountains of Might people.

Production twits make me laugh

FYI: "Blizzard Beasts" is one of the two records that I have production issues with; the other being Krisiun's "Ageless Venomous". I have no problems with "The Celtic Winter" or "Wrath Of The Tyrant", for instance, but I find that the "Blizzard" production is so shitty that it's hard to make out the actual riffs.

Depends on my mood, but generally, I think I have to agree. For example, I consider the riffs from Metallica's "For Whom the Bell Tolls", Grave's "Soulless" and Burzum's "Det Som Engang Var" to be some of the best ever made and almost impossible not to headbang to.

Nargaroth - Herbstleyd is killer :kickass:

Just got it a few weeks ago. I like the variety on the disc, and the 7 minute atmospheric intro is cool!

i am actually listening to that album as we speak, which is what made me think of them. AWESOME album!

I was gonna post this the other day when I saw it, but totally forgot. Immortal setlist from their first show after reuniting:

1. Withstand The Fall Of Time
2. Solarfall
3. Sons of Northern Darkness
4. Tyrants
5. Mountains Of Might
6. One By One
7. Wrath From Above
8. Unholy Forces Of Evil
9. Unsilent Storms In The North Abyss
10. The Sun No Longer Rises
11. Battles In The North
12. Blashyrkh

So thats...

1 Diabolical
2 Pure
2 Battles
1 Blizzard
2 Heart
1 Damned
3 Sons

I may have fucked up the count...

Apparently they said they may change some stuff based on audience reaction, though not too drastic. Personally, I was kinda hoping for one of the SOD tracks to be Beyond The North Waves, preferably the opener for the show. I feel that would be a strong opener. Tyrants should be rid of on the set, its one of their weakest tracks, in my opinion. And if they're gonna bother with anything from Damned In Black, make it the title track. Really no other half decent song on the album. And you'd expect Call of The Wintermoon to be the Diabolical track. Oh well, I'll still be at the LA show.
