Agalloch rips Dream Theater

and a retort you shall get...since you are way off.

So Ray Alder wasn't accessible but Queensryche's Geoff Tate was? The band whom FW were attempting to following into metal glories? FW were never chasing DT, they were going after what Queensryche achieved with Mindcrime and then ultimately, Empire with it's sales of 3 MILLION copies domestically. *ahem* Dream Theater has ever come close to that? hahaha. So your accesibility claim isn't very valid, but i will give you the marketing of Metal Blade via Warner Brothers was pretty awful and i believe that talk about it on the Parallels DVD, but it had nothing to do with vocalists i am sorry to say.

Actually I never said they weren't accessible in some way. I just said that Labrie's voice was more accessible than Alder's. That's pretty much all I meant. Maybe they were influenced by Queensryche, but I don't hear much of it outside of their early Arch albums and possibly Ray's vocals at times.

Agreed though, it didn't have much to do with the vocals at all.

it's not that they were influenced by them musically they were after the success Queensryche had achieved. With Empire doing as well as it did plenty of bands decided to try and streamline their sound for a shot at mainstream success. some bands to their detriment, but others to great success, artistically, since Parallels is a classic in my book.

hell, DT even took a stab at it on Awake and more so look at all the bands that clone Dream Theater now hoping to get just a piece of their pie (fanbase) even though it much relatively smaller than Queenryche's for the time.

oh something funny Shawn of LINE OF FIRE pointed out today, but James LaBrie apparently sings background vocals on Life In Still Water on Parallels. this would be pre-Images & Words. i had forgotten that.

I'm sure it's only coincidence, but to me, DT began getting terribly monotonous once they added Jordan Rudess. He's an amazing player, like they all are, but I have not liked any of the albums he has been on as much as the ones before he joined.

And as for FW, they put out "Through Different Eyes" (thier first stab at commerciality) in 1989, a year before Empire. They were already writing/recording Parallels when Empire came out, so to me that looks like a case of timing coincidence. FW was chasing a bigger taste of the success that they got a whiff of with "Through Different Eyes", not trying to create their own Empire.

As for LaBrie being more "accessible" than Alder, that all depends on context. LaBrie, IMO, could not have sang "Eye To Eye" with the same melodic ambience that Alder did. But, I think Alder would have done a fine job on "The Silent Man" or "Another Day"...

This board sucks sometimes.

Oh, I can certainly understand why many people here would not be aware of and / or even like a band like Agalloch.

Though, before being included in Prog Power, would these same people give Therion, Amorphis, While Heaven Wept, or Arcturus the time of day?

Answering honestly, and not "kissing Glen's ass", the answer would be no.

Therefore, if Agalloch were ever invited to play PP, many people who say they suck now would certainly change their tune, and possibly even sponsor.

I have been an armchair viewer of this board for what, like 5 or more years now?

Believe me, there are MANY people I can call out on this, but you know me, I am Mr. Civil around here!!! :loco:

I know Therion from listening to Pandora. I think I've memorised all of the songs they give me whenever I choose my "Power Metal" station.
