I think "sum" and "sum1" are easily the most annoying.

Only time I think it is justified is during texting people with cell phones since it is a pain in the ass to type, even with the T9word software.

I also spell out everything with text messages, but I don't mind if people try to abbreviate the words. There is also a limit on how many letters you could use, so if the message is long, you do need to abbreviate it.
But when someone has a full keypad and types "sum" or "u", I want to punch them.
