HAMMERFALL! MWHA HA HA HA! SEE ME IN MY TIGHT-PANTS LOVING, LEATHER GLOVE WEARING POWER METAL WONDER THANATOS! HA HA HA HA! I love this album :D
Also Blind Guardian - Night at the Opera

Well, I just downloaded the new Opeth CD (my favorite band) and absolutely love it. So that may end up being my favorite Cd of the year. I won't judge until I actually buy it next week. Internet dls always seem to be a little... crappy.

But I don't know, I really, really, really like Damage Done. This Cd is just so god damn good. I hate to say it, but I prefer this Cd to both the new In Flames and the new Soilwork.

I can't really comment on anything else until the end of the year, though.

1.) Damage Done
2.) Sons of Northern Darkness
3.) Novembers Doom: Welcome to Fade

My top 5 would have to be:
5.Norther-Dreams of Endless War
4.Insomnium-In the Halls of Awaiting
3.In Flames-Reroute to Remain
2.Dark Tranquillity-Damage Done
1.Blind Guardian-A Night at the Opera

Hard to say at the moment, but if I was forced to part with my top 6 I would say:

1) Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done
2) Star One - Space Metal
3) Opeth - Deliverance
4) Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera
5) Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors
6) Theory in Practice - Colonizing the Sun

The last three were all disappointmens as I hold the previous albums by aforementioned bands in very high regard. Still fine releases though.

haven't heard enough of the year's releases to make a truly informed decision, but of what I've heard, I dig the new DT, Shadows Fall, and Soilwork..

Can't really pinpoint one album of the year (yet), but some good albums I heard this year are:

- ARCTURUS - The Sham Mirrors
- RAPTURE - Songs For The Withering
- DETONATION - An Epic Defiance
- DAYLIGHT DIES - No Reply
- SOILWORK - Natural Born Chaos
- DARK TRANQUILLITY - Damage Done
- DARKANE - Expanding Senses
- GREEN CARNATION - Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness (I know it's from 2001, but I only discovered it this year...)
- OPETH - Deliverance (haven't really decided what I think of this one yet, only have it for a few days, until now it sounds quite good, but not great yet)

Another album I'm looking forward to is ANOUK's "Graduated Fool", she's a Dutch rocksinger that I really like...

So far, in no particular order:

Ashes To Ashes - Cardinal VII
Labrat - Ruining It For Everyone
Lake of Tears - The Neonai

However I've yet to hear albums by, Sentenced, Babylon Whores, Paradise Lost, Ani DiFranco, Darkane, Meshuggah, Daylight Dies, Shadows Fall, Blind Guardian, Theory In Practice and Amon Amarth... so it might not be until next year til I can make the final assessment.
