Alexi's Skill Decreasing?

ok... children of bodom just played in toronto.

little bit of my history: I've become fan of children of bodom this year when i accidentally saw Needled 24/7 video on google. I liked the song really much. After I heard all their songs - i realized this is probably the best band in the world - I realize that there are bands that play much more technical stuff like Dream Theater for example - but... all those progressive bands just lack the coolness factor that children of bodom have. Their old stuff is extremely good. COB's new stuff good too, although different - but I still like most of their new stuff. Anyways, how much i like this band is a different story...

I was initially planning to come for children of bodom when they came to our town in March, but couldnt make it. I really didn't want to come to Unholy Alliance, because all other bands that were there are not my cup of tea at all - and the ticket was quite expensive for me. But I just couldn't resist the temptation. Prior to going to that concert, I checked this thread where people say that alexi doesn't play well no more.
But, I just have to say - I don't quite agree! He played quite accurate! I was very amazed.
One thing I will agree with is that the performance flew by - and there were no memorable moments left in my head about their performance :Smug:- it was kind of like watching a music video - no interaction with the crowd at all and the performance was very plain - I guess the band is pretty tired doing the same thing over and over again on this tour - I can't really blame them. I will just hope they will come soon again to Toronto and play for longer and it will be more cheerful! For at least like an hour! That performance was way too short!

By the way, I was very much dissapointed and disgusted with some crowd that came to this concert - because they were smoking pot even though it says no smoking allowed! No respect for people who cant stand the smell of pot - my girlfriend and young brother that were there couldnt breathe and forced me to leave early the concert!!! Shame on you Toronto, Shame on you!!!!!!!! And I mean what the fuck? Why the hell these guys smoke in the first place? Do they think they are hippies with no life or something? God damn hippies! Can somebody explain me - since when heavy metal culture advocates pot smoking? Drinking yes, but taking drugs is just something totally beyond my imagination!!! Because of these douchebags - I kind of feel ashamed to be associated with heavy metal fans - if people gonna think about me that I smoke pot like those losers - fuck that! I am really pissed off!

I agree with the fact that Alexi's performance was excellent. I agree with the consideration, though when I was down on the floor, I was liking the contact buzz. Anyway...it sounds like a hypocritcal thing to say you don't smoke pot because people prematurely pass judgement...but then call them hippies and losers and whatnot and that prettymuch negates what good you said.

sorry if I touched anyone's feelings... but I hate people who take drugs because it's a destructive habit! It's just my personal opinion! I know some will disagree. Like some will disagree that COB is a kickass band. doesn't matter - even if they are fans of COB and they take drugs - I am sorry! Even if they are university professors and take drugs - i am sorry!
At least if you gotta take drugs badly do it in the privacy of your home not on every corner in town! There are people who don't want to be exposed to this sort of stuff!
After all - Molson Amphitheatre is a smoke free environment!

lmao burn.

ps: don't preach here.

yes, clearly everyon eis quite interested in how lame alexi is getting and how he clearly doesn't care about his playing as much as he did when he started ::let the comebacks and flames begin::::

Dude, I always knew that 90% of CoB fans behaved like 12 year olds... but I never thought I'd see the day where someone would think that they were COOL because they had over 3,000 posts...

You know what thousands of posts on a music board says to me....

NO LIFE!!!

For those of you who consider yourselves more intelligent than someone who is a "NoOb" (lol)... I might suggest getting a girlfriend, a job, some friends... and maybe a car.

ON TOPIC....

I can't really be one to judge whether or not Alexi's playing has changed for the better or for the worse over the years... but I will say that I think a lot of the reason that the newer solo's (AYDY and HCDR) are less complex is simply that the music is less complex.
They have taken a more straight forward approach on the newer material... as where the older music was much more technical and was more about guitar/keyboard solos than it was actual vocal melody.
Older albums had more melody in the MUSIC... but i'd say that it'd be pretty ignorant to argue that the newer albums don't put more emphasis on vocal melodies/choruses.

True, but thats the idiots who cant control it. Of course you should never smoke pot in a public place. But I think once a week before you go to bed is fine. Dont bag on pot unless you have tried it!

Oh and BTW, look for children of bodom on google video. They have some new show posted on there and alexi rarely messes up on it.

I'm not sure who you're referring to as "fags"... but just in case it's me... i'm a college student for your information.
College is probably farther than you or half of other CoB fans will ever make it... so shove it junior.

I DOn't think his skills have gone down, i mean what about the 'If you want peace prepare for war' solo, thats fucking insane, infact all of the solos he does on that album are amazing, and even alot of the guitar parts on that album are very hard to play. His style of play has changed though.

Except for the solo on the song "Are You Dead Yet?" I'm sorry... but that thing is boring.
