Alice In Chains

AIC is one of the greatest bands of all-time. I fucking love every song they made.

I totally agree that self-titled is the hardest to get into. But once you get into it, it has a lot of merit. It's their darkest album, for one thing.

I don't give a fuck what genre AIC is but I think Nirvana was more metal than AIC was. Not on Nevermind or In Utero but the rest of Nirvana's material was a verse-chorus sludgey metal-rock. AIC had a metal kitsch for their music and they would have been a kickass metal band in the 70s but all in all they just aren't very heavy. But all the good grunge bands were heavily influenced by metal. AIC has a buttload of metal style in their sound but if they're metal then they're just about the softest metal band. I guess they're as metal as Nirvana but ina different way.

Wow, I would have to pretty much disagree with everything said here. I think AiC had some heavy stuff compared to those other bands of that time. I think they were definitely more "metal" than Nirvana for starters, but to each his own I quess.

i agree with you

just a simple understanding and acceptence of what grunge was and the need to put a named discription on that totally new sound and feel at that crucial time in rocks history clears all confusion up. But whatever... its gotten all screwed up with technicalities since the beginning and even to this day anyhow.

Its all just rock'n roll.....

Fair enough, we all know there are fiercely different interpretations of what is "metal."

But how much Nirvana have you heard?

Nirvana fits in well with the budding 80s extreme metal scene like Hellhammer. Have you heard songs such as Anorexorcist, Pen Cap Chew, If You Must, Beeswax, Mr. Moustache, Sifting? There's nothing metal about Nevermind or In Utero, but the rest of Nirvana's catologue is pretty heavy and can be kinda extreme. Alice In Chains' heaviest stuff, like We Die Young and Sickman connects back to the cleaner 80s metal like Metallica, whereas Nirvana is more akin to the muddier stuff like Death. I think it depends on what style and attributes of metal you consider to be the "most" metal.

You gotta at least hear Anorexorcist before assessing Nirvana's metalness, if you haven't heard it.

I don't think either of them are straight-up metal but I can see the connections you're making. Nirvana's a good band but I still like Alice In Chains a lot more.

:headbang: :kickass: I go back and forth between them, I like them probably equally. I probably listen to Alice In Chains more, though.

The only problem I have with Nirvana is that their albums aren't really consistantly good. There's usually a couple good songs and then it's stagnant for a while with a bunch of mediocre songs.

Then what song of theirs do you like? I always liked "Smells Like Teen Spirit".

I like both Nirvana and Alice In Chains but Alice In Chain is the better band.
