i believe being close friends with Brian Slagel (Metal Blade) + Johnny Z. (Megaforce) was very helpful.Who the hell knows how they got so big.

Volume 8 is a great album. The troo "fans" just can't swallow there is a funny country song inside.
Well than I really have no idea how you ever liked Anthrax. "I'm the Man", "Bring the Noise", "13", "NFB"....all Anthrax. Not a metal tune there. Even the cover songs they do that are big "Antisocial" and "Got the time", are hardly "thrash" covers. Just fast remakes of a couple of songs. Hardly the definition of Heavy Metal.
Anthrax was always known as a bad to try something different. Just seems some fans couldn't stand something different on a Bushthrax album.
I'd rather listen to that lame country song than the rest of the horrible so-called metal songs on there. You honestly thinks its a great album? Seriously?

Anthrax tried something similar with 'Armed And Dangerous'.The other bands didn't have the balls to write anything like Fade To Black.

Just for the fuck of it I just listed to Volume 8 last night and was scratching my head as to how bad this was. Even that Catharsis song is pretty lame...there are a few decent grooves here and there but overall a very bad Anthrax album
Well no matter what you think or know about their musicianship, I think that what helped Metallica get so big was their ability to write SONGS. They were the best songwriters of the Big 4 back in the day. The other bands didn't have the balls to write anything like Fade To Black.
This.
Kill 'em All was the fastest and heaviest at that time. Show No Mercy is very Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.
Then Ride the Lightning was a massive step forward from Kill 'em All.
As you say they did Fade to Black, whereas Exodus were proudly proclaiming "four albums, no ballad", with Impact is Imminent, while Anthrax did their first ballad as a pisstake on Killer B's.
No idea. Myself, I liked thrash. And whatever Pantera was I liked OK. Loved Bush era Anthrax. But who gives a CRAP about what is what and this and that? Good music trumps all. If you like Pantera, fine, like Ballethrax, fine. Like Bushthrax, fine. Like Willie Nelson, fine.
What gives with all the crappy attitude? Every "era" has a defining moment, and when it's gone, it's gone. Who cares? Is Anthrax "thrash" anymore? Who cares, if you like it? Did Metallica sell out after the Black album? Again, if you like it who cares?
All you amateur musicoligists should just STFU! No one cares. Listen to it, if you like it and don't listen if you don't.
End communication.
the beginning of 'The Constant' sounds very Pantera-like imo.
To be frank it's the jokey elelment / rap metal that set them apart from the other 3 of the Big 4.
What the fuck? You don't know how Metallica got so big? Or what their lyrics are about? Well, i couldn't expect more from a kid that started listening to Anthrax with SOWN or Stomp.
Metallica wrote Kill 'em All - the fastest and heaviest thing at the time, like Motorhead on steroids. They defined a genre, just there.
Ride The Lightning - an anti death-penalty album, with emotional lyrics on Fade To Black, and great songwriting. And heavy as fuck, also.
MOP - Anti drugs, Anti organized religion, Mental Illness, Anti War! Their masterpiece, miles away from all the other thrash bands. Fast, heavy with hints of progressive rock, and incredible melodies, with great song structure. Battery, MOP, The thing that should not be, Orion, Damage Inc.
AJFA - Conceptual album, about the American judicial system. Political. Incisive, dark and heavy as fuck. James sounds more furious than ever, and the beautiful instrumental dedicated to Cliff. And the thrash abuse of Dyer's Eve, Blackened, or even Shortest Straw. Harvester of sorrow, One, Frayed Ends of Sanity...
Just another idiot, with no personality, hating Metallica, because it's so cool to hate the popular band.
Do i really need to explain even further, how the fuck they got so big?
Listen to your groove and nu-metal, and leave thrash to those who appreciate it. Alright, buddy?
I always thought it was because they had a vocalist who could actually sing.
