apart from Death and Opeth I find most death metal lyrics to be total crap like Cannibal Corpse Lyrics, all about suffering, lots of suffering, even more suffering murder, blood and guts....im open 2 any views and opinions otherwise

You've yet to define "lyrically meaningful." What is meaningful to me might not be meaningful to you. And since you consider Dream Theater a metal band, we should clarify this first. :tickled:

I got the non-gore/splatter thing, but I would say *most* death metal lyrics aren't gore/splatter...
by lyrically meaningful i mean, lyrics that have a contributive message and/or analysis of something. for example Death's song 'Individual Thought Patterns" is about how people should open their eyes, open their minds, not be sheep followers to leaders who are often corrupt, its message is basically for people to develop their 'individual thought patterns. Thats just 1 example, i think Death has the best death metal lyrics in general.

Crypt of Kerberos - World of Myths
Garden of Shadows - Oracle Moon
Demigod - Slumber of the Sullen Eyes

I mean contributive meaning. 'meaningful' is not easy to describe you know. personally I beleive that meaningful lyrics are lyrics that really reach you, lyrics that make you think, lyrics that open up your thought to an aspect of life.
and by the way...Garden Of Shadows have good lyrics, too complex though, hehe.

LOL you like opeth's lyrics, they're garbage. Immolation has good well thought out lyrics
"You've left me in the filth
You've left me here to die... Why?
Look at how you've broken me
Can't you see what you have done
Is it the devil in you
Or just a selfish heart"------LOL, HE SAYS IMMOLATION HAS GOOD LYRICS

"Decide what is clear and what's within a haze
What you should take and what to give"-----Opeth have good lyrics, at least better that immolation's

Coming from someone named MaskedRage, I'm a little confused by your version of meaningful. Anyway, isn't it obvious that some things are meaningfull to some people while not to others? and MORE obvious that Opeth aren't death metal? :) If you can't handle a little suffering find a different fucking style of music.

That said, I think Lord Worm's lyrics are pretty interesting. (wee bit of suffering though. You can take it kid-o)

Im sorry i should have named myself .person.of.thought.and.deep.conversations, ur pathetic, your using my screen name to argue a point, thats pitiful man, ESPECIALLY since ur name is Sinister Mephisto. by the way jackass, Opeth are progressive death metal, look it up.
its stupid for lyrics 2 be all about suffering without portraying a case. if there is pain to serve a message other than 'I've been treated like shit, kill me" then its fine...however i do agree that different things are meaningful to different people

Opeth are NOT death metal, they are Prog. Rock/Metal.

Anyways, you should have asked for philosophical lyrics because that is basically one word describing what you are asking for.
