************* RESULTS FROM ROUND 1 *************************

Region 1
---------

Not much love for Canniabal Corpse? Surely the cover art was worth something!

Reign in Blood (28) vs. Tales From the Thousand Lakes (9)
Holy Land (25) vs. Unquestionable Presence (11)
Still Life (11) vs. Dreaming Neon Black (24)
Tomb of the Mutilated (1) vs. Burnt Offerings (34)
The New Order (28) vs. Ziltoid the Omniscient (8)
Lateralus (5) vs. Moving Pictures (30)
Abigail (22) vs. In Search of Truth (15)
Beyond the Crimson Horizon (13) vs. Land of the Free (22)

Region 2
--------

Venom squeaks one out. I think Claus is the only person who pointed out my goof of writing that Mandylion was by The Gathering. Which I knew, but for some stupid reason wrote in "Nightingale". That wasn't supposed to be one of the jokes like Abba or Jonh Denver!

Black Metal (15) vs. Turn Loose the Swans (14)
Theater of Salvation (5) vs. The Divine Wings of Tragedy (32)
Shout At the Devil (24) vs. Gretchen Goes to Nebraska (12)
Nothingface (16) vs. To Mega Therion (19)
Heaven and Hell (28) vs. Focus (6)
Holy Diver (13) vs. Master of Puppets (24)
Mandylion (14) vs. The Sound of Perseverance (20)
Rainbow Rising (20) vs. Don't Break the Oath (16)

Region 3
--------

I had to call organizer's prerogative and cast the tiebreaking vote between Streets and Peace Sells; at the end of the voting, they were tied at 18. I always save my own votes until the end in case they're needed.

And poor Morbid Angel.

In the Nightside Eclipse (8) vs. The Fourth Legacy (28)
Fabulous Disaster (11) vs. Control and Resistance (22)
Streets: A Rock Opera (19) vs. Imaginations From the Other Side (18)
Peace Sells…But Who's Buying (31) vs. Wishmaster (6)
British Steel (29) vs. Nightfall (8)
Covenant (0) vs. Operation: Mindcrime (37)
Heartwork (12) vs. Entropia (20)
Forbidden Evil (3) vs. Powerslave (34)

Region 4
--------

Poor Immortal. No love for black metal here. Or much death, either, if Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel's tallies are anything to go by. At least Focus and Sound of Perseverance got some votes. And so did Black Metal (Venom), but that was up against doom, not any power or prog.

Decipher (22) vs. Deicide (9)
Forest of Equilibrium (3) vs. Images and Words (33)
Slaughter of the Soul (14) vs. Theli (20)
Crimson (8) vs. Blizzard of Ozz (27)
Perfect Symmetry (24) vs. Alive II (11)
The Fullness of Time (26) vs. Time Does Not Heal (7
Into the Electric Castle (18) vs. Ecliptica (16)
Pure Holocaust (0) vs. Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt 2 (35)

************* RESULTS FROM ROUND 2 *************************

Looks like there's some love for thrash in this crowd, as King Diamond
exiles Gamma Ray and Megadeth sabotages Savatage. On the other hand,
Black Sabbath makes Metallica roam off.

Powerslave versus O:M????? Oh the sweet agony!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm torn between decades of greatness and the only album I continually listen to from start to finish..... making it the best album, right? Brutal matchup, indeed!

Yeah, those were a little rough!! So what did you vote for?? :)

I have to admit, I voted for Mindcrime and H&H.

Powerslave, and to a lesser degree, Rainbow Rising, are trendsetting mega-albums. Certainly PS was the one that cemented Maiden in the stratosphere.

However, Mindcrime is one of the top albums of all time (and my #2 overall). H&H is far above RR. I voted the same as Lady Space, but it was tough.

Steve in Philly (still upset that my #1 album of all time - Streets - was beat out by the excellent but not worthy of the win Peace Sells).

We are now at the Elite Eight! The new pairings are

ELITE EIGHT
-------------

Reign in Blood vs. Moving Pictures
The Divine Wings of Tragedy vs. Heaven and Hell
Peace Sells…But Who's Buying vs. Operation: Mindcrime
Images and Words vs. Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt 2

Voters know how to vote. Previous non-voters can e-mail or PM me to get the new link.

Results from the prior round are:

************* RESULTS FROM SWEET 16 *************************

Not really any close contests here.

Reign in Blood (31) vs. Dreaming Neon Black (12)
Moving Pictures (27) vs. Abigail (17)
The Divine Wings of Tragedy (29) vs. Shout At the Devil (15)
Heaven and Hell (33) vs. Rainbow Rising (9)

The Fourth Legacy (12) vs. Peace Sells…But Who's Buying (32)
Operation: Mindcrime (29) vs. Powerslave (15)
Images and Words (32) vs. Blizzard of Ozz (12)
Perfect Symmetry (17) vs. Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt 2 (25)

Okay, you asked for it. :)

ELITE EIGHT
-------------

Reign in Blood vs. Moving Pictures

Both good albums; if it had been another Slayer album (South of Heaven or Seasons), I might have had a harder time choosing, but MP is a better all-around album IMO.

The Divine Wings of Tragedy vs. Heaven and Hell

Clear choice... the song "Heaven and Hell" alone wins this contest for me.

Peace Sells. But Who's Buying vs. Operation: Mindcrime

Love Peace Sells... but I think we've aleady established what most everyone's favorite album is around here. :)

Images and Words vs. Keeper of the Seven Keys Pt 2

I&W is a masterpiece... I like Keeper, but it doesn't hold a candle.

O:m vs. Powerslave and H&H vs. Rising were more difficult choices by far! Such a shame In Search of Truth got knocked out so early, too. :/ It was really interesting seeing how the votes got generally more evened out later on.

Ladies and Gentlemen! In this corner, with a total weight of 500 pounds, a total height
of three and a half people, two missing fingertips, and a great sense of relief from
the departure of a future-reality-show embarassment to the universe we have

HEAVEN AND HELL

In the other corner, with lots of hair spray, a yes-we're-metal-no-we're-not attitude,
and a vision to at some point in the future stain the memory of this classic by trying
to recapture its success with a sequel (and in the process recruiting one of
the team members above), we have

OPERATION: MINDCRIME

64 albums have battled it out for three weeks, leading to this ultimate match-up!
The winner of this receives absolutely nothing, except an ass kicking from Slayer
who are now waiting back in the locker room after their elimination in a previous
round.

Let the voting begin!! Most of you know how by now! The voting will close at
6pm (Central) Monday April 7.

************* RESULTS FROM FINAL FOUR *************************

Moving Pictures (13) vs. Heaven and Hell (25)

(about as close as I'd imagined it would be)

Operation: Mindcrime (24) vs. Images and Words (15)

(not nearly as close as I would have thought)

That was tough. The critic in me wanted to chose Heaven and Hell but Mindcrime was always a favorite on a more personal level. I'll go with Mindcrime for the upset.
