Arcturus - Sideshow Symphonies

I must be the only one on earth who doesn't give a shit about Vortex-era Borknagar; I much prefer Garm and Vintersorg.

No, you're not the only one. THere are others in this forum just as wrong as you.

really? the first two are right up the paganviking alley. then they pretty much abandoned that for cosmos/astral stuff.

Granted, it's been a good long while since I listened to any of their stuff but I remember not caring. Then again...I think I may have just heard their later crap.

Epic was a pretty big letdown, for me at least.

the early stuff is cold nature-istic vikingesque type stuff and is pretty damn good actually. not epic n the Bathory way, but more similar to the Belenos kind of way, if that makes sense.

ALL Borknagar is ultra-win, end of story.... it's just a matter of exactly HOW ultra-win the albums are when compared to each other.

3 firts Borknagar-albums are great. After that I've skipped them, but the acoustic one is one sure buy.

Sorry for strange writing etc, I'm quite drunk... :)

I'm surprised you've heard "The Insight and the Catharsis" J. Is your gay detector malfunctioning? :loco:

Seriously though, that last portion where he takes over the spotlight in that song is majestic.

I also think I'm interested in this Arcturus. The only good music I've heard from them was when Simen had a large role in it. It could be a great album.

It's one of about 3 songs from Dimmu that really stuck out from their usual boring platter "black" metal.

Without SImen ending that song, it would suck.

That's a pretty great and accurate description. For anyone who's wondering, the s/t is extremely fast and the most "black metal" of all of the Borknagar albums. "The Olden Domain" is a lot more epic and "vikingesque", and obviously not as crushingly fast.

Great shit. I liked Epic, but it's certainly not their best.

Why couldn't the rest of this album be as good as "Frontier Shipwrecked Pioneer" or whatever???
