Are You Dead Yet? is unquestionably Children Of Bodom's most simplistic album. Remember people, opinions are subjective and no one has to agree with your opinion, but there is no definate opinion that is correct.
As for the Follow The Reaper comparison, yes, there are similarities. For example there are many implied or played harmonies or melodies that have a very FTR feel.
For example:
1. In "Living Dead Beat" there is an ascending diminished scale harmony between the guitar and keyboard that is similar to diminished melodies on FTR.
2. The pre-chorus harmony of Are You Dead Yet? has many similarities to the harmonies of FTR.
3. Next In Line's chorus is very similar to Northern Comfort and even Hate Me
4. Alexi uses distorted or layered "demon" vocals on Punch Me I Bleed and the final word of Trashed, Lost & Strungout, which were commonly used on FTR.
