Awesome song recommendation thread

Death in Fire would have to be the top pick for Amon Amarth.... incredibly brutal, incredibly catchy, perfect introduction to the album....

indeed, Death In Fire was my first introduction to AA, great song. As for Time What is TIme/Journey through the dark!?!? Good songs, but awesome!? Ah, well, BG is an awesome band, it's all good stuff :)

Just had to contribute something to this old thread coz I've had a few songs in my head lately that I just can't get out or stop listening to... On the more melodic side of hard rock, with mega-choruses. I think you should check out these 3 songs if you can download them from somewhere!! A-grade melodic rock...

Y & T - Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark (1990)
You'll find this easy. This is a big band and this was a single but not a hit, though it should have been. One of the best chorus hooks ever, you won't get it out of your head! In terms of style, think a more melodic '87 Whitesnake..

Atsushi Yokozeki Project - More Than Enough (1993)
This is off some Japanese shredder's album, but it's the album ballad and a glorious one!! Slow building into a mega-chorus again, big and upfront, with such a good melody. Great guitar playing too obviously since the album it came off is all about that.

Tower City - I Won't Surrender (1998)
This is a mid-paced kinda half-ballad-half-rocker with an atmosopheric verse building into another mega-arena-chorus. Catchy as hell, great production, great vocals, again just a great melody and will get stuck in your head for ages!!!!

I just needed to share those 3 songs with people coz I can't stop listening to them at the moment! All are just excellenting songwriting, you could strip them down to nothing and those chorus hooks could still carry the worst production & playing ever if they needed to. But as it happens they all have great production, music & vocals to go with it.

Paragon - Impaler
Twisted Tower Dire - To Be A Champion
Stormwitch - Priest of Evil ;)
Running Wild - Lions of the Sea

Awesome, Trent resurrected a thread of mine. Makes me feel all important. ;)

I still haven't listened to that My Dying Bride CD I've got. :)

"In League With Satan" by Venom is awesome in its badness.
:headbang::kickass:
Actually, the track Poison from Welcome to Hell is brilliant, if only for the fact you hear Cronos say "sitting there beside me, hand upon my zip, dont bother to take it down, honey, its about to rip"

BTW The Aussie band stories (mayhem, venom) were gold.

I actually put that song on the other day after not having listened to any GNR for a very long time. Awesome.

I am getting back into some Queens Of The Stone Age lately, and giving Era Vulgaris more of a listen as it didn't grab me at all when it came out. I have been really getting into Lullabies, and remembered that that didn't do it for me when it was new either, so am giving EV a listen now. Misfit Love was wild live, so I recommend that.

I had to scroll back through this thread to see what the fuck you were talking about here.
It was a test. Lucky you passed otherwise I would have to kill you when I get to Sydney:lol::headbang:
Its time to metal up, fella's. Maiden, 08, here we come...:kickass:

At the Gates - Suicide Nation

Awesome song, and a good one to seek out if you've never heard the band.

Ooh, this is nice! Liking that chorus. Must check out more from these guys, any other tracks you would particularly recommend?. :)

Couldn't find the other two tracks.

Love/Hate - Blackout in the Red Room (the ULTIMATE street rock song!)

Holy shit! I haven't heard that in donkeys years.

Saigon Kick - Feel the Same Way / All Alright / All I Want / hell... the whole The Lizard album!

Thanks for the rec, these guys never got very big over here, so I never caught on to them. Cool album. :)

I'm adding a bunch of Y&T songs (including the original video to this one) to the youtube thread, right now.

Contagious & Temptation are both very cool songs off the '87 album "Contagious" by Y&T!
That "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark" chorus is one of my favourite hooks. "Touch by touch, little by little, I'll unchain your heart.. Don't be afraid of the dark.."
Great song!

Unruly Child - Unruly Child

This album is one of the greatest AOR albums ever made with vocal god Mark Free on vocals (back when he was still Mark not Marcie heh). If you like AOR you NEED to get this album. Brilliant.

Great choice big fella!!
My picks for tracks on that are "When Love Is Gone" and "Who Cries Now", as well as the awesome opener "On The Rise" to kick it off! Probably a better album than "Signal - Loud & Clear" which seems to be Mark Free's most highly regarded one, though that album has a few amazing tracks on it up with the best Unruly Child songs!

Kelly Hansen from Hurricane (and now Foreigner, and that Atsushi Yokozeki song I recommended) sings on the 2nd Unruly Child album but I've never heard it. Love his voice so gotta check it out!!

Yeah Signal is a good album, but I think Unruly is more consistant. Have you heard his solo album? Its lighter AOR than his other stuff, but its pretty damn awesome. Has a brilliant cover of FM's Someday on it. His work with King Kobra is great too. Don't know why he had to ruin it all and become a chick heh.
