Bands who were cool before the suck

Cryptopsy!

None So Vile is the best DM album ever. It was interesting to see this band go to complete shit the instant Jon Levasseur left.

kevin's 100% on the nail, after Lord Wyrm, Cryptopsy was no longer cryptopsy...

I hate to say it, but Opeth:

Lord Worm actually isn't that big of a deal to me, he's more of an afterthought when the rest of the band is so awesome. I didn't mind Mike DiSalvo's vocals at all, in fact I actually liked them a lot. I thought they really fit well with the frantic kind of music the band was writing at the time. It was when Levasseur left (the nerdy looking guitarist with glasses) that the music started to go to shit.

Demolition Hammer. I know Time Bomb was supposed to be released under a different name, but still.

united abominations sucked so much hairy jewish balls... But maybe if they record an album with Chris Broderick, you could be right.

Chris Poland is infinitely better and more interesting guitarist than Broderick, so no.

Don't think I've gotten through a whole Megadeth album since risk. Used to be my favorite band.

Same goes for Dream Theater. Everything after SFAM has been horrid.

6 Degrees is one of their 3 best records, after that they've become quite meh though. Btw, just listening to the new record and the lyrics to "the count of tuscany" had me in tears with laughter. So. Fucking. Bad. I can't grasp how those could have been written by the same guy as Scarred, Voices or Metropolis 1.

they are hilarious. very homoerotic as well.

I think Six degrees blows. There's a pantera song on it, there's a radiohead wanna be song, then there's solitary shell which is a rip off of peter gabriel's solsbury hill. It's the album they started sound like bands that were currently into to some extent.

if it had at least culminated in some hot man-rape, it wouldn't have been so incredibly lame... ;)
Oh, and another thing: Please stop trying to do growls, mike portnoy. You're not fooling anyone.
I'll agree that six degrees started the unfortunate trend of them wearing their influences on their sleeves, but I also think Misunderstood and the great debate are two of the most genuinely progressive things they've ever done, Disappear is really moving, Blind Faith grooves like hell... In the end I just like the songs i guess, regardless of who they rip off

I think "Blind Faith" on Six Degrees is better than any other DT song but otherwise I agree.

Agree with In Flames, agree with Soilwork.

Borknagar comes to mind although the last two albums had three or four songs I liked, but Empiricism was a pile of shit.

I loved Spirit by Eluveitie until they fell off. Tyr of course.
