Before yall ask to search, I'm not asking for a VST.

I'm looking for what bass players use to achieve similar tones to this.

I know it can't be just the amp, because I've played through it before, and I know Ampegs don't achieve that grind or amount of gain from just the amp. The whole HP/LP add distortion on top end deal won't work live, so I need a piece of gear. Any suggestions?

Stainless steel strings, with enough tension to stay in tune under seriously aggressive playing

To point out the obvious, jazz and mesa... sounds like a sansamp cranked with passive jazz pickups, but I think his playing style is playing a big part as he is right up on the bridge. This band are amazing

yeah, if I was a bass player, I'd buy one, no doubt.

I'm going to try to make my bassist get one in the future at some point.

wow, a modern day deftones, when deftones is still around haha

WHOA!

I don't hear the similarities man.

Deftones are more of a Radio rock band from what it sounds like, these guys mix hardcore punk with a bit of progressiveness.

Not as much gain as the Sansamp apparently, but it sounds pretty good.

Nice. Depends on the settings of course, but in that comparison, I actually PREFERRED the Behringer one.

I'm going to recommend it to our bassist. Thanks for posting that vid.

Thank our very own Audiogeekzine, this is his shootout! And if you read, the distortion was maxed out, so that's all the drive you're going to get.

hehe, you're right... Thanks AGZ!

I still prefer its sound. And for 44 euros, it sounds great to me

With the behringer one I think the deal is if you are just gonna leave it on the whole time thats great, as the on/off switching pedals on these things aren't all that great. I looked at all those youtube vids as I really want a sansamp to add to my little recording setup and even the audio samples are pretty damn close. Similar the the TS copy they do which I A/B with my Maxon od808 and its was on the money. The tone was a little more drastic and it had a little more gain but £125 compared to £30! Just a shame the cases and power pack inputs are soo lame.
